Hello, my name is Lynda and I am trying to help my husband find his dads burial spot. We tried to find it in september with no luck. He was cremated and ashes were put in a brass urn and buried approximately 24 inches deep in 1985 up in his mountain that he truily loved !!! Long story short - he wanted his ashes spread on his mountain but his family thru a fit so he agreed to be buried up there with the promise that when all of his family was gone we would dig him up and spread his ashes as he wished !!! My husband buried him and knows the spot within a few feet. Curious if someone in the area could help us???? Guessing it's about 10 miles west of Gate City, Virginia on old 23/58 please let me know if someone can help. My husband really wants to find him. Thank you and God Bless!

Why not buy yourself a cheap detector ? Something in the $100-300 range. There are many and you may just start a new hobby. Besides you claim to know where the Urn is within a few feet. It will be an easy find.

At 24 inches deep that would be very very hard to find.

Hopefully they dug a hole 24" deep.
So the top of the urn might be less than a foot deep.

Maybe for a $100 machine. But it is a brass urn....and why not just dig a 3'wide x 2' deep hole if you know the location ? It's a no Brainer.

You could also try a long metal probe. The ground has been disturbed, and you said you know to within a few feet. I would try GENTLY probing to see if you get a metallic ting sound. Good luck.
