I hit a church after getting permission from the pastor. The church was built in 1920's and has changed little over the years. Only my 5th time out and i can just about pinpoint my object. Although i have been passing up objects if i get mixed respones from my detector. Is that wise? I do however check the surrounding area very well to make sure it isn't picking up on multiple targets. My problem is that I live in Pass Christian,MS and the old parts of town are near the gulf of mexico. But with all of the hurricanes going on, alot of stuff has shifted. Any advice? By the way, not to many schools around here. Maybe I'll head to Gulfport this next weekend.

Typically, I tend to dig everything on a older site other than iron. Still, I always take into account digging in a high traffic area. If I was digging the front lawn of a church by the entrance, I would be more likely to dig a few targets each time over the course of numerous visits. This avoids turning the grass in to a war zone.

A number of my better finds have been been iffy targets. If you aren't sure or even have the remotest suspicion that it could be a valid target, dig it.

I would work on doing some research for your immediate area. For as long as people have walked the earth, we have gathered together in places for one reason or another. Even the smallest towns usually had an old general store of some kind. Swimming holes, picnic areas, places kids gathered to play etc.

As for the horrible floods incurred by by the Gulf Coast, that could work for or against you. While it likely pushed modern trash around, sadly, a lot of people lost their personal items.

I can't imagaine what it would mean if you were ever to find an identifiable ring and return it to someone that lost it during those storms. So many people lost everything they owned.

Hang in there. The good finds will come in time.
