Hello, my name is Brent and I am new to the hobby! I just bought a detector at a yard sale and am excited to get started. I'm looking for information about the detector I bought but cannot find a brand name on the thing anywhere. I'd like to find the manual to learn how to use it. Any help offered would be welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I have attached a photo to my original message in this thread. There's nothing to indicate it's brand or model at all which seems very odd... and generic. Thanks again!

Welcome from CT. Maybe when you turn it on something might come up on the screen or in a sub-menu to give you an idea.

I'm not quite sure what detector you have there; most main brands would have the name of the model displayed in a conspicuous spot. But here's a thought: yours does resemble some Bounty Hunter models, like the Land Star or Camo LS (though I couldn't find an exact match); so perhaps if you studied the manual for these detectors, you would have a starting place for working with yours. Otherwise, just play around with it and learn all the general information you can about operating detectors (this forum is a great place to learn, so feel free to ask questions)! Have fun, and please keep us posted on your progress!

is there a serial number or anything on the underside of the control housing it may be between the shaft and the control housing.

it does have some nice features looking at the control box

Thank you! That's the one. It really threw me for a loop not being able to find any identification anywhere. Sadly, they don't have any manuals available online. Looks like their description may point me in the right direction for learning how to get started. Can't wait 'til after work today to get out and start learning! Thanks again!

Thanks for the help! I took a look at the models you mentioned and found them to be similar. I'll download the manuals and see if perhaps they're helpful for figuring mine out.

for future if you come across another detector or anything that does not have a brand name, if you have a smart phone you can take a photo of the item there is an app on most smart phones that will do a search of the item and give you the best match, I took a photo of your posted photo and my phone pulled it up by your photo, I have done that with bugs, reptiles, mushrooms and all kinds of things this was the first time I had used it on a photo that was posted on a forum but I thought what the heck it is worth a try sure enough it worked LOL

its pretty useful but also pretty scary when you think about it LOL

it says it is a gold detector but the frequencies it runs at 6-7 KHz tells me you would be hard pressed to detect any gold nuggets with it to me it would be a better detector for silver coins and things like that for gold detection you want a detector running 18 KHz and higher, not saying it won't find gold as anything is possible but there are just better frequencies to detect gold, I think from the looks of it it would be a good starter detector
