Good info here on the at max

WoodButcher

I would think just maybe you might have got a Lemon , maybe give the Nox 800 a try, not a big fan of Garrett here , except the Carrot, XP Deus on the way with round - HF coil to play with, one CTX3030 gone, as i didn't need 2 . One thing i learned this time around , is i watch , learn a bit more , as in the past having E Tracs , i cut the CTX down, and Deus, now i won't make that mistake again, good luck with your AT Max, sorry the EQ 600 didn't work out for you , there is some relic hunting here now were i live, just have to find the civil war sites , will have to learn how to knock on door's as most is private property, happy hunting, Earl

My ATP is awesome in heavy iron, better than any other machine in the water, although, I haven't tried a nox yet.. I've found tons of gold where most can't hunt or stand to hunt, including CTXs and Excals too..

Don't listen to the cabbage bashers..

Your experience/opinion is different than mine. Not what your sites are like or what they originally were but almost all of mine are old homesteads with all the fixins,..nails/tin roofs/etcc...

Mine simply would not perform up next to old houses or heavy trash anywhere. It would basically shut down...only nulling over with a swing in the heavy stuff. No repeatable signals.,...and basically spitting something different out at me with every swing in the same iron infested spot. There are folks who love them and find great things with them, and good for them, but on occasion when I see a thread saying how great they are in iron I do give my $.02.... 95x out of a 100 I don't say anything but on occasion as a former user yeah I do comment every once in awhile. If somebody out there is planning to hunt similar sites to mine and is considering one I think it may help them out. Especially someone just starting out. I would suggest they consider a "faster machine". I have no ill will toward anybody or their machine I only wish when I was on here asking for suggestions several years back someone would have emphasized recovery speed. There are multiple views to a machines performance.

For anybody reading this for info that is going to be an old homestead type hunter considering a VLF machine I would say go to youtube watch tons of vids and listen for machines that in heavy trash can give you multiple audible responses on a single swing,...and then have the ability to do it again.. and I mean like a dozen responses or more,..,..whatever the brand this would be a great place to start IMHO. I will aslo say if anyone can find me a vid of an AT series giving an audible repeatable machine gun type response with multiple targets in the ground,....... I'd like to see it.

I'm not a brand guy or or a committed Nox fan or whatever that may be. I never mentioned the Nox or have any plans whatsoever to purchase one. My opinion only related to the machine in the OP which I have owned and used.,..and no I'm not an AT fan for the reasons stated. I don't hate garrett or anything of that nature either. Its just a performance issue for me.

I'm not sure what being a cabbage basher is but if a free hat comes with it I'll guess I'll take one.

Ice Scratcher - I still love your boat man.

The problem is you have never used a machine that is good n the iron and have nothing to compare the AT PRO to except the AT PRO. You just THINK the AT PRO is good in iron and it don't take much testing against other brands to see what a DOG it is in the thick iron. What does ole cabbage bash know about hunting the thick iron? He only found a couple of the rarest buttons ever found this year in it....

The problem is you. He's very happy with his Pro. You aren't happy until you can find a reason to take a shot at the Pro. He digs far more gold than you do. You really should play jaws in the remake.

You made some good finds calabash,no one can take that away from you.But we’ve all made good finds, your not the only one here who makes good finds..But your the only one who claims they’re a expert,,and I’m not seeing it buddy.Actually, that’s your only downfall,,but hey,it’s just our uneducated guesses here right.Kinda like Facebook, you can be anyone you wanna be.

How did this thread turn into a nox thread,I thought it was good info on the AT MAX...Oh,I see now why..

Go back up in this thread.
Look who spouted Nox first.
Then At Pro was mentioned.

I posted the link above because the At Pro was talked about some.

I'm sorry the Nox was in the video.

No you aren't. That was the sole purpose of you posting the video. You and bash have the same narrative every thread about a Garrett.

There are few videos that exist comparing the At series to Nox.
So since someone above opened up this thread to At Pro discussion, and some else mentioned Nox. I joined in.

I never said anything here bad about At series.

Tnsharpshooter,I think you use what works for you,Honestly I don’t think your bias. And I believe that you know that every machine isn’t for everyone, seeming you actually have in field time on so many machines, that sets you apart from guys who only test machines and have no actual knowledge of real field use.You give good info, but Somtimes you gotta let people choose what they like and even if you disagree you gotta let it go.

I may be the one who actually entered the At Pro to the thread. To me I see the series as very similar with not much discernible difference between the 3 as far as separation,.. but I have only owned the Pro. To distract from the OP was not my intent.

Woodbutcher please define what makes one a expert. I bet for anyone to be considered a expert in your book they would have to meet 1 criteria and that's agree with everything you say....

Your right, the at series is really close. The max gave those who like the at pro the advantage of some things it was lacking, backlight, volume control, wireless headphones, just those three things are big to some,, including me.I really like the at pro, don't matter to me if something is better or not.

Being an expert in detecting is like anything else. Time and experience. Of which you have very little.

Personal insults don't change the fact that your AT MAX is a dud detector in iron....and its audio stinks. Oh yeah try selling it and see what kind of bath your gonna take on it now.

It wasn't a personal insult. It was a legit question. You make a mockery of your own self. I don't need to insult you.

edit: I could sell my Max for 600 bucks right now. How do I know ? I was offered 600 over the weekend.
