First Seated Quarter

Congrats on a very nice outing. You did dig some great finds with the Seated Quarter, the Large Cent, the Flying Eagle and all the rest. The video was a pleasant watch. Thank you for sharing. Trapper

Awesome hunting! Ive only found one seated quarter back in '14-'15, mine was an 1854 with arrows at a pounded cellar hole also with the at pro. Haven't seen one since, not even my hunting buddies have found one...so I know how rare they are. BEAUTIFUL coins! Congrats!

Very nice! Have always hoped to find one of those arrows varieties - what a great looking coin... Yes they surely don't come up often - I almost feel like I have seen more seated halves dug than quarters... But I am surely glad for this one... even if I never find another! The first find of any type of coin is always so exciting, and you never forget it!

Way to go! I've been doing this hobby for 30 years and I have NEVER found a seated coin of any kind - I've found IHP's and nickels in the 1870s, but nary a seated - you are one lucky (and determined) dude!

Finding a seated quarter aint easy but finding one older than 1853 is awesome. Most were melted for profit in the early 1850s so yours was surely dropped before that. Great find

The gold rush of 1849 brought gold prices down and silver prices spiked making all silver coins worth more than face value in 1853 the Philadelphia mint changed the design on seated quarters so any coin not a 53 could be easier to spot and melt and restruct

Thanks for the nice comment - peaceful tends to describe the places I tend to hunt - I'm not fond of roadside digs even if they are full of coins... I like to be where its quiet, where I can hear nature around me, and where I feel relaxed to just do my thing. Luckily there's a lot of places like that in this part of Maine... ;)

I agree. I'm usually alone with a random horse or longhorn here in central Texas.
