Friday I got home earlier than usual.. ended up with an hour-plus of daylight so I headed to my old school site. First plug was a kind of cool brass gear - maybe from a pocket watch? Second was a nickel that was too crusty to ID. I went to get my camera to document my "first Buffalo" - after taking the shot I saw a bit of Lady Liberty's profile. So I'm still skunked on Buffaloes but got my second V, an 1896 in much better shape that the worn 1890 I found at the same location. Also got a signal that sounded good; when I dug all these nasty shards of glass came out. Finally I located the brass cap of a perfume bottle. When I cleaned the mud out, the tiny neck of the bottle with remains of the cork were in it. Later I found the end of a cowboy belt. Today I went back for more, and I think the first thing I dug was a little shiny coin... 1930 Canada ten-cent piece. First foreign coin I've dug. Hit a clad dime and memorial penny in the same hole which kind of bummed me out because the most recent coin found here previously was 1951! Got a .45 auto slug and then the badge from a Hiawatha bike sold by Gambles stores (1950s?) I'm happy!
