Wow! A parabellum 9mm. My dad also had one, which I now have. Ours was a 1917 issue. Not all were WWII.
Clean it up and restore it. It looks doable. Quite valuable.

Sweet find for sure. I do agree that you need to take caution just in case it has an unfired round in it. Well done.

I tend to agree......too much is just not right.
I suspect that it's a replica, toy, or some other sort of novelty piece.
Well now iā€™m confused because after doing more research I still canā€™t find a blueprint or picture that resembles my find. But it canā€™t be a toy or display because it had all of th firing components still inside with and ID number and th word ā€œLugerā€ written in fancy lettering on th side

If the Luger name is fancy, I would suspect it's a more recent one. What side is the bore? They made .22 Lugers in the 1970s.

Lots of American GI's brought home guns and bayonets as souvenirs from WWII. I remember as a kid, other kids showing off their dad weapons from WWII.

Correct, it's a Stoeger-made Luger 22. Looks to be a pre-1980 aluminum frame.
I looked it up and it appears youā€™re right! this makes a lot more sense considering th weapon is in decent condition compared what it wouldā€™ve looked like if it was put there during WW2. Most of th online results show th weapon being black, so I suspect th paint must have been scratched off while in th ground to show th silver frame.

I believe your correct on this one because along with th fancy ā€œlugerā€ writing, it does have a ā€œ.22ā€ written about an centimeter behind th barrel
