F70 or X terra 705

Everyone here knows the fisher f2 is the best detector in its price range. I still have one of them too. I did not find it cheap at all. When I moved up I went to the f4 and loved that detector. The issue with those detectors was emf interference and that is a problem where I like to hunt. That is the reason I went to minelab. I like my detectors for they way I like to hunt. I don't like a lot of falsing and noise. I like to hunt slower. I like to find silver. It was a no brainier for me. Good luck with all this useless BS. The people here are offering you awesome advice at no charge. There is years of experience talking to you and advising you what worked for them. Take the advice or dont. It will be a lot shorter and less expensive to listen. That is what I did and am glad I did it. Good Luck and stop the BSing it is not helping anyone.

100's of hours learning the languages?
Sure it takes time, everything worth anything usually does, but while some struggle for a long time, others not so much and still have great fun all along the way while learning.
You have a right to your opinion using YOUR personal experiences, but I can tell you there are many F70 and F75 owners that didn't come close to experiencing the same...and many that never spent a second with any other Fisher unit in their lives which 9 out of 10 times would be considered a benefit.
Just go over to Findmall and read.
Some struggled at first, some not at all, all that love these things kept going and
their finds didn't drop, the grew in volume and quality pretty quickly.

Tn_Indian...love y'all man, I really do, but from your last few posts about how much you you are getting along with the ATPro so well, and how much you struggled with the F75 even though you gave it a good shot for the last year or so the answer is obvious...stay with the Pro and put the Fisher away or sell it.
Certain people click with certain brands or detectors and with others it is just a bust no matter what.
That is just a fact of life and could be true for any of us or all of us.
I know for me I would not get along with the AT Pro at all, I could swing that thing for 2 years and you could probably smoke me with what you know now after what, about a week swinging it?
If I don't have an absolute blast swinging something I just wouldn't spend 100% learning it or I might think I am but I know me and I really wouldn't and if I feel like that I could never get great with it.
I probably wouldn't enjoy swinging Minelabs too much either.
So many love these things, get super good with them they find a ton and I have absolutely nothing against them but I know for me they absolutely would not be my cup of tea.

Keep swinging that Pro, enjoy it and find great things with it as I am sure you will do, and sell that F75 to someone
that would love to swing it as much as you seem to love your new one.
Win win.

yup just giving the OP my thoughts on the questions he had. really don't care if u like r dislike what I say r do gigger to tell u the truth lol. im by far not done with the f75. I will put in a good 500 hrs before I make a decision on rather I sell it and never go back to fishers again. Who knows I may even try the f70. The thing that bothers me the most other than the constant chirping is that it doesn't have the proportional audio like the f2 and f70 has. After using the f2 and at pro and hab=ving the proportional audio on both machines its a must have for me. And im not a big fan of the tones on the f75 as well but the proportional audio is what throws me away from the f75. But as I have read the f70 does have it so but to me and from my experencise and what I have read any fisher higher than the f4 is very chirpy and thatsd another thing I don't like. When I get a sweet high tone 77 r 84 on my f75 se I suspect a clad quarter r silver quarter not another false signal. And this happens more than u thin no matter what setting u use. Right before the f75 headphones went out I was using it on 40 sensitity just to limit falsing lol. But the at pro wow finally a metal detector without all the bull !!!!. Only have 1 week with the pro and only 10 hrs r so but the learning curve is notta. I understood everything the first day I used it. Was no studying the tones etc etc r falsing chirping all the time. Was actually fun. But as I said I will give it a good 500 hrs before I try to sell r trade again. Could have sold it to many for 600 but I stood firmly on 650. had a trade semi final till a mod got trigger happy and closed it LOL :laughing:HH

I been reading this thread as I am looking to get back into this hobby, I have had the at pro, f75 ltd and the etrac, and safari. out of them the at pro was the most fun and easy one to use.I did have alot of hesitation and no confidence in the f75 because I didnt know if I should dig or not and my son would whoop me in finding quarters with his f2. I was looking at the 705 and it just looks cheap to me, the build on the f70 and f75 is very good and so is the at pro.I think I am going to take TN_INDIAN'S advice also and get another at pro or maybe even the gold. going to do some more research tonight, thanks
mike

im telling ya the At pro is closer to a high end machine than a middle end machine. Sure the F75se is a monstor on depth but I promise ya if u set it to go that crazy depth ur ears will bleed and u will pass over lot of good targets. But that's just me. What doesn't work for me may work for u. I just no I can use 0 descry on the at pro and hear ALL the high tones very easy and unmask ALL the goodies r most. I will try to use the f75se in 0 descry again when I get the new headphones replaces. And see if the high tones stick out like they do with the at pro which only been using for a week and I understand the tones GREAT already.HH

Digger, I understand that my view on the F series isn't popular with you. It's just an opinion though, which I tried to give an honest one. I've been detecting for twenty years and have used detectors from every brand basically and I try to let folks know my experiences with them. Doesn't mean that my word is law.

My sister actually uses the F2 exclusively and I've used t many times myself. Not the worst machine in the world but the quality is lacking in my opinion compared to similar priced detectors. I mentioned the control box, also on hers the foam grim just freely slides up and down the handle, after a few days of buying it.

Its not just the F series detectors either. I think Garrett has some serious quality control issues as well. My brother had an AT Pro which actually performed really well but it was built horrible. Two times the external speaker burned out just from plugging in the headphones and then the arm cup broke which apparently has happened to many at pro owners.

I'm not a mouth piece for any particular brand. I just try to relay my experiences having used most machines around. I tend to a lot of the classic Fishers as of late because I've never had an issue with them but that certainly doesn't mean they are the be all end all of detecting. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers I just want folks to hear about positives and negatives of machines before plunking down their hard earned cash.

It is not what you say it is how you come across, to ME anyway, saying it.
You are a picky type, and expect and demand excellence and I get that, nothing wrong with that at all, but that word disgrace was a little harsh, I think, so many of us have these things and the build for us quality is a total non issue.
Right or wrong I felt insulted when I read that, it happens a lot when anyone knocks something that other people spent good money on, it is like you are insinuating we are stupid for not seeing flaws that you noticed, but I know you didn't mean that and I know it wasn't personal.

You also might really want to understand me when I say that what you experienced with the F70 and what I know, see and hear understand and can find seems to be totally 180 degrees different than your experience and I am not the only one, there are a bunch of us so either we are all delusional or there are some things about using the F series high end you never got to understand.
Again, not knocking you just different strokes for different folks.
Calling them the worst detectors was uncalled for, IMO, although you are not the only one that have said the same things about the F70 and F75 almost word for word.
I get it, the F70 was the worst for you, but you could have made your points in a different way.
There is always another way.
Like maybe "in my opinion the build quality is not the greatest", instead of using the word disgrace.

I apologize for my rant but I have always tried to help as many as I can on this and other forums whether it would be by support, posting tips, or tempering any opinions, especially about recommendations, in a logical, fair, honest and totally unbiased manner as I can manage.

There is good and bad in most detectors I guess, and if people need to know about the negative that should be put out there, but the positive needs to be understood and weighed too, and remember that things can be understood and looked at in totally different ways by two intelligent people because they can easily perceive the same experience in totally different manners...frequently.

Such is life.

Peace.

There was also a thread on ATP's breakage/failure.(near 50%)
Despite what you may think, the 705 has an exceptionally low failure/breakage rate. User damage to Minelab coil ears seems to be their biggest issue.

had mine for a month r so now no breakage and seems pretty strong to me. f75se pretty stron not sure about the 705 im sure its strong as well.

I use to use a Fisher F70 and I have to say it was one of the worst detectors I've ever used. Erratic, noisy, totally unstable vdi. I would have to turn the sensitivity way down which then resulted in average at best depth. I try to be totally honest in my evaluations of machines but it seems we have a lot of fanboys who will do there best to promote what they use as the best of the best. I personally believe that the f series ofdetectors are hugely overrated in performance and quality. For example, look at how generic the control box housing is on the f2, my kids have toys with higher quality plastic than that disgrace of a machine. I would take a 705 all day over anything Fisher(bounty hunter).

I agress on most of what u said lol. What machine r machines u own now?

Thanks for the help everyone. I appreciate the honesty DIGGER. If its like you say and the video I put up as an example is nothing as far as chatty, I maybe looking for a 705. I really think after a while I too could distinguish a good target from a bad one. I am a hard person to please. If the F70 is that chatty all the time even waving the coil to the sky I wouldnt be happy. I would be like OK why is my machine going off for no reason as it is sitting stationary next to me while Im digging a target.
This doesnt mean its a bad machine it just means its very very sensitive.
My F2 was nothing like that at all. I had more falsing than emi chatter.
Its very quiet until I get the coil over metal. Sometimes it would false. But I could figure out its falsing in under a second. The only time it would act chatty is when I am directly under, on top of or next to power wires. I wouldnt even be looking for another MD if the F2 had double the depth:laughing:

If the f70 is anything like my f75 se and I hear they r a lot alike yes it will make noise and people say that noise is small targets in the ground etc etc etc but I disagree cause u can hold it straight up in the sky and it still says theres targets under the coil. But it is a very deep detector tho. Fisher is on trhe right track. I suspect within next 5 years they will have a awesome machine out. Don't get me wrong I love my f75se andf have lot of time invested in her but if me and the chatter and tones don't click like I want it then I will put down the fishers and maybe forever. And yes the f2 is super quiet machine. Loved it. but its to low end of a detector to be my main unit.

I really like the 705 Gold package that I had and the elliptical HF coil almost never came off. The machine is stable and not slow at all compared to the older multi-frequency Minelab machines. It is lightweight and gets good depth. It has a lot of nice features including a backlight and the ability to change frequencies with a coil change is a nice option. The only newer Fisher that I can comment on is the F5. I also had the Technetics Eurotek Pro with the 11 inch coil. I had the same issues as Basstrackerman with the sensitivity to EMI being so great that they were unusable in some areas. I have confidence in these detectors because of having the sensitivity to low in order to quieten them down enough to tolerate the noise. I have always run my detectors hot and a little noise doesn't bother me but too much can be irritating. Most detectors will be a litlle noisy if your running them hot. I don't think you would be at all disappointed in the 705.
