equinox 800 with water in display

I think this is the first leaky nox post I have seen. Lots of people post about using them in water; myself included. It's expected that a few would get through the manufacturing process with some unseen flaws. You got to be the lucky one!
You did register your 'nox online for the warranty, right?

Yeah, I am lucky. Yes, I registered my warranty a few days after receiving the 800 in March of 2018.

tracking show it left Atlanta and went to Mobile, AL. Why Mobile when the Illinois repair center is due north of Atlanta?

They just wanted the control head so that is all I sent. I don't expect any problems from Minelab on this repair issue.

update on repair

Minelab repair facility in Naperville, IL received my nox 800 at 3:30 pm today 9/3.

at 4:35 pm today 9/3 it was repaired and shipped back to me via FedX.

Hmmm, they must not be terribly busy at this facility repairing Minelab metal detectors.

Should get it back in a few days.

Be interesting to see if they repaired it or just shipped a new unit. But in their email they did state it was repaired.

From what I've heard, the majority of the equinox's that flooded did so on the first dunk. If you own one and haven't submerged it yet then do it now before your warranty runs out....

This was about the 3rd time that I had it in the water. But the difference between hunts 1 & 2 and the last one was that in the last one I was in the water for about 2.5 hours and the hunts 1 & 2 only 1 to 1.5 hours each time. Same depth, chest deep water. So not sure if that made any difference.

Its almost as if the equinox is disposable? ill bet more than half of the major warranty repairs (water intrusion, broken screens, etc...), are sent brand new units. I agree, they need to step up their game, but will say, they made a HUGE leap moving repair centers. Hope you get yours back fast! I sent them a machine awhile back and I think it was about a 2 week wait. Which isn't really all that bad. Good luck and happy hunting!

Had mine in the river today (600) no issues. It was its first time. I'd call Minelab for sure. Never had any trouble with their customer service dpt. HH

Happy that Fedx promises to deliver my repaired Equinox 800 control unit by 8:00 pm today.

my team is waiting to get back together with the 800 head unit.

Interesting that they had you send it to IL and not the repair facility in PA. There is (as far as I can determine) no repair facility in Maperville IL, it is their US office and distribution center.

No Nox control units are repaired it seems. They are welded shut and cannot be opened without destroying them.

Got the head unit briefly under water for the first time since owning my 800, the next day it would not turn on, I quickly noticed what appeared to be a bubble of water inside the display. Sure enough it had water in it. Everything was tight and I had the Minelab waterproof headphones attached. This is disappointing for a detector supposedly made to be submerged. Thankfully Minelab is standing behind the warranty and said they are replacing the unit. This is good but did cost me $28 in shipping. Now the obvious question, have they done anything to the new units to keep this from happening again? Has anyone heard anything in this regard?

Sorry you had that problem HR but glad to hear Minelab will resolve it.
My Nox was an early issue and at first, I didn't submerge it. Finally I got over it and dunked the 800 for an hour. Wiped it down and let it air dry. Happy to say no leaks. Good luck!

You have to fill
It with silicon to make it waterproof. Plenty of videos on YT on how to do it.

I've seen a couple of reports lately on other forums of Equinox leaks including from Calabash whose video on burping is in this thread.

I wonder if the seals become compromised with the heating and cooling from hunting in the Sun and hot weather and then being in cool air conditioned houses??? Rubber seals getting hot then cold?

Just a thought.

Calabash loves to trash the At Pro on YouTube, but blocks comments on those videos. Doesn't like anyone to disagree with his opinion, I guess. So, Calabash, how good can the Nox 800 be if they leak like a sieve so often that you have to post a video on how to "burp" them? LOL!
