hey guys, I got the Deus II for relic hunting on land. Since they are fabled for their ability to average/see-through nail-beds in ghost-townsy environments.

But I know they're also supposed to be adept at wet-salt beach hunting too. I haven't yet used mine on the beaches where I live, since I'm so accustomed to my Explorer II for the beach here. It's served me well. Yes I'm well-aware that the Exp. II is NOT adept at micro-jewelry (tinsel thin chains, earring studs, etc....). But since those have such meager melt/weight, I haven't much worried about the potential at whispy chains..

But now I'm going to give my Deus II a whirl. A buddy of mine has stumbled on to a wet-sand zone recently, where targets are appearing, in what he describes as sand that's approaching black-ish. Eg.: Minerals with wet-salt. Not enough to require a pulse machine, but enough that it will further dampen the lower smaller conductors, of course. So I'm going to give this stretch a try with my Deus II.

Can any of you guys, who have used the Deus II, recommend some wet salt mineral settings ? Not just "wet salt" settings or "lake beach" settings, but : Specifically for what can happen @ some of the CA beaches. And I don't need it to find insanely small pinheads (so I don't need to resort to nugget hunt type settings). But sensitive enough that it'll get earring studs and whispy chains.

Any advice ? Thanx !

Forget it Tom, I’ll lend you my awesome beach machine!

I hunt moderate Black Sand with the D2. The good and bad news. In my opinion the D2 is NOT the best Black Sand machine. My Equinox is better.
Now for settings. Beach sensitive is far and best for gold of all sizes followed by Beach. For a first outing try not to push yourself! Use Beach at sensitivities down to 88, if you have to go below 88 change to dive program.
Reactivity .5, magnetic accept, tracking GB, Audio response 6, Iron volume 3, Salt Sens 7, Discrimination 22, Bottle cap and silencer 0. That should be a good start.

I have not worked the new update yet and I hunt the 9"coil.

Tom a lot of that you are going to have to find just a Cali hunter for settings. I have little black sand. And Florida's black sand isn't like Cali black sand. Yesterday the beach I was on, I could run 97 sensitivity. You will occasionally find a beach a Deus ll is a lot more finicky on than another beach. Where I am A Nox 800 works just as good as a Deus ll or Manticore. I'm not trying to dig 20" deep. If you don't want to burn up all your time hunting cheap earring backs, just run Beach P. As you know a lot of that real small gold you could just make more $ digging quarter signals. I did test chains with a Manticore, Deus ll, Equinox 800, CTX, etc. and will tell you. None of them are a miracle worker on small beach gold compared to another. One you may scrub a small gold chain. Another may be heard at a 1/16 of an inch. Like that's a big deal. It's not going to matter if you are not scrubbing the ground. So remember a lot of it is where you detect. Cali conditions would likely drive me nuts!

I find the best approach is to use beach sensitive, and open up all the settings for maximum sensitivity, and then wind them back in this order until it's stable.

salt sens no less than 7 out of the water, reactivity no more than 2.5, sensitivity no less than 90, magnetic accept/reject.

If you hit the above thresholds 7/2.5/90/reject and it's still chirpy after a frequency scan, you might be in a high EMI location and need to drop the sensitivity some more. But honestly I'd be very surprised if you needed to go much past 90
