Detector upgrade.

Up until fairly recently, I owned 5 detectors, from 4 different manufacturers (including Minelab). Heck, I've often suggested a Minelab detector, depending on what was requested.

It seems you're confusing a "fanboy", with someone who can think objectively. I often suggest a Legend, because of high performance, high build quality, a full array of features / settings, low cost, and a company that is transparent and listens to their customers. As such, suggesting that detector is not being a fanboy, it's smart decision making.

Furthermore, if you disagree with anything I've said, then post a refutation. Go ahead. I'll wait.
Ok FANBOY

You obviously are a fan of the Nokta Legend. This is obvious with nearly every post you make. Yet you say you're not a Fanboy. But then any time someone favors a Minelab They to you are the fanboy. Just help me understand how it works out that anyone that doesn't agree with you is always wrong? I have heard you interject your opinion about the Legend when someone was deciding between two totally different detectors. You prefer the Legend (WE GET IT).

I think something you have lost track of is that if it wasn't for Minelab there wouldn't even be a Legend. Maybe you should thank Minelab for that huh?

Once again: "Up until fairly recently, I owned 5 detectors, from 4 different manufacturers (including Minelab). Heck, I've often suggested a Minelab detector, depending on what was requested".

I've recommended a Vanquish model many times, when someone was looking to buy a low cost and simple to use SMF detector. Albeit, in current similar requests, I no longer recommend the Vanquish, since the Score models were released. Why? Because the Score models are better detectors for the price. Ditto for the Legend when compared to the 600/800. That's not being a fanboy. That's using logic and facts to make a suggestion, instead of using emotional bias. "Emotional bias" is what a fanboy uses. BTW, I've also recommended the X-Terra Pro in the past for certain users, as well as the D2, and Tracker IV for other certain requests.

It just so happens that Nokta makes excellent low cost SMF detectors, that typically provide much better value for the dollar when compared to the competition. So, of course I'll often recommend one of their SMF detectors. If another company offered even better bang for the buck on a particular model, I would be recommending the detector from that company.

Furthermore, Minelab didn't SMF technology, and it's debatable if they, or Whites, were the first to use SMF technology in a hobby metal detector. So, you're wrong when you said:

if it wasn't for Minelab there wouldn't even be a Legend

Granted, Minelab introduced variants of SMF, like BBS, FBS, and Multi IQ, but that is what is called "natural progression" in the technology field. In other words, if Minelab didn't introduce those variants, then another company would have, because the variants are the natural progression of SMF. If it wasn't for XP and Nokta, the X-Terra Pro (awesome detector for the price), wouldn't exist, and we would be paying a heck of a lot more for a Minelab detectors.

What is clear since the release of the Legend, is that it really pissed off many of the 800 users. So much so, that the Legend's Facebook page was inundated with Minelab trolls. Minelab 800 users were literally angry about the Legend. Imagine some 800 suers getting angry just because a company produced a better detector at a lower cost? That emotional anger is a further defining characteristic of a fanboy. In fact, some were so angry, that they were even throwing racist slurs towards Nokta. Absolutely pathetic and disgusting.

RichyP1980,
If you choose an Equinox model or Legend, please do not crank up the sensitivity until you are well acquainted with running one of those detectors. Just use the default sensitivity settings or even lower them a bit so you will be able to easily learn the difference between a real target and all of the audio responses that are likely tiny trash, ground noise or EMI.
First time I hit a place where I was getting lots of EMI it freaked me out. Thought my less than 6 month old detector had malfunctioned.

I have both the Equinox 800 and Nokta Legend and have a good amount of time on each. I have also made some awesome finds with each.
Personally I feel the machines are equal in most areas but onearea that they are not equal in is price. I can get a Legend Pro pack for less than the EQ800 standard pack plus the pro pack comes with additional 6” coil, pin pointer (Bluetooth to headphones) and quality digger.
One area where I Think Nokta is leaps and bounds ahead of their competitors is the fact that they LISTEN TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. Most of Minelabs updates are to take care of issue where most of Noktas updates are to add customer requested additions.
Hell I’ve got more hours on my Legend than I do my Manticore lol

I had a Legend and an Equinox 600.
The Legend has a simple, easy to adjust camlock shaft. The Equinox 600 & 800 use a pushpin shaft. Clunky to use, same kind found on a $99 Bounty Hunter.

They finally put camlocks on the 700 & 900 so they know it's a better design.

The OP was asking for advice, not for round 1,000 of Minelab against the World detector wars.

I appreciate the thoughtful replies after the 800/Legend Fanboy challenge.

When this forum dissolves into Facebook type bad behavior it is no longer Friendly.

Private messages are a good place to go nuclear.
Great post and thank you!

The OP is not going to go wrong with a Legend or a Minelab. Both are top-end machines and perform very well.
