Found this old button a couple weeks ago. It is between the size of a dime and a penny - much thinner. I have researched it to the best of my ability and believe it could be early to mid 1800s, but wanted to ask to see if anyone might know.

The shank is missing, but appears there may be evidence of where it had been soldered (thin silver streak on back in center that is seen when magnified). There are the letters PLATED on the back (the “A” can be seen at 12:00 position in one of the photos. All other letters except the e can be made out plainly but doesn’t show up well in these photos. The front appears to be silver plated. There is also a leaf /or foliage design on the back of the button near where it says Plated.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Pretty common for an 1800s button. Someone might know a little bit more, but so many were produced by so many people it's hard to usually get anything more than a rough age on it. Cool find!

Thanks! We have found multiple clay pipe fragments here. Archaeologist told us they were made by colonist settlers. We have been finding several coin style buttons too (different markings so far, but similar) and just trying to figure out if the buttons may go to the same puzzle. Thanks again!
