I live in Western Massachusetts, near many old towns, and have recently bought a White;s DFX metal detector. I am primarily interested in finding old and new coins and jewelry and some relics. Can anyone tell me what the best search coil is for increased depth and pinpoint accuracy in finding the items I am interested in? I have looked at the: 1.)8"/14" DD elliptical; 2.) 18" DD excalibur: and 3.) the Bigfoot searchcoils. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There are a lot of factors to consider when trying to find the best coil for a particular kind of hunting. Things like soil mineralization, amount of trash, location, etc all need to be considered. White's has several coils on the market for various types of hunting. If the soil is highly mineralized you may want to look at the DD coils. Larger coils will generally give you a little increase in depth but for separating out targets in trashy areas they aren't as good. With a smaller coil you can separate targets better in high trash areas but the draw back is that you loose some depth. My favorite all around coil for my DFX is the 6X10 DD. The area I hunt is highly mineralized and the DD helps me get better depth than the stock coil and is alot better at target separation in moderate trash areas. I have not used the 12" from Whites yet but I have heard good things about it so far. I'm sure others will be able to tell you more about some of the other coils you mentioned.
