The weather has turned warmer and the possibility of bears waking up is pretty high. Today I'm gonna be taking down our bird feeders as in the past I waited too long and had to replace a couple. Usually they don't come out this time of the year, but the temps just may trigger a wake-up.:jawdrop::waytogo:

I used to have a shelled peanut feeder - little wire mesh tube of a feeder. I had to try and bend that thing back into useful shape after a bear mauled it. Never ended up using it anymore. Poor nuthatches don't get free peanuts anymore

I had to get a bear proof trash can early on when we moved here too. Bugger cost me more to ship here from Maine of all places I think it was. Every once in awhile I'd find it across the road  but other than put teeth holes in it, it worked. I then setup a bear 'unwelcome' mat that I set my trash can on, gives them just enough of a jolt to keep them away from it entirely.

Years and years ago we got sick of the black bears tearing down the feeder pole. So we ran cattle fence up and down the side. The bear threw a fit first time he got zapped. Feeders can be left up year round now.

I had planted about 20 walnut trees behind my place they all had tubes along with a 1/2 inch condulet pole 7 feet high for support . Anyhow I go back there and WTF who would bend all these down . Went to pay my taxes a mile away and this guy was a bird freak feeders all over his yard bent and pulled down .
He showed me on his garage a bird house attached to the eve at least 7 feet from the ground where there were claw marks in his fascia where a bear had been swinging at it till he knocked it down.
A week later in the morning my dogs came in the bedroom and were growling at the 6x4 foot window I look out and there's this big bear bending my only feeder in the yard down .
Then I hear from my neighbor that the dnr caught a bear people were feeding in the cul de sac by the river 1 mile from my house it was spring and it weighed 332 pounds that's a big bear .
Week later coming home 3 blocks from my house there's a bear running in front of my car lol. sube

Yeah they are a pain. 2 years ago they busted up two of my young apple trees pretty bad and then crapped in my yard to insult me even more.
