Are explorers still relevant?

I wish people would include one little disclaimer in posts like this, such as...
“The Equinox made all past permissions new again...FOR ME”. I think that’s what is actually MEANT, but without the disclaimer, it leads others to believe something which may or may not be true...for the individual.
The EQX is nice, but hasn’t made anything “new” for ME.

Good post. And I would also add there's a bit of confirmation-bias going on, that can be seen in ANY machines that have come to market. Ie.: Like wood-butcher alludes to : SO TOO have there been 'scores of testimonials' (any time new machine hits the market) as to awesome finds in worked-out-spots. Eh ?

And ... sure.... perhaps it's a better machie than your prior machine, in the individual place you're at. But it could also be our giddy-ness with our new toy, and digging all-sorts-of-signals to learn our new toy. Then presto, the moment you find a goodie, it will be "because of the new toy".

The real test is to have two proficient users, side-by-side, doing double-blind tests of flagged targets, where neither one gives a hint as-to-their suspicions of what it is. Eg.: iron, tab, deep silver, etc..... Then after 20-or-so flags, you tally the results of who got stuff the other person would-have-passed.

I keep hearing how the Nox 800 will outpace the Explorer in deep-turf-strategy. And .... don't get me wrong, I would LOVE TO SEE IT (so that I too would rush out and buy one). Yet it's not turning out that way , so far, for any deep-turf tests I've done. Yes it's better in relicky ghost-town see-through tests. But not for deep turf. JMHO
