Anyone here hunt Carlsbad, CA beach area? Will be going there in March 2024.

What surprises me is all the local knucklehead you-tubers that show what cars they drive, the precise location of where they're hunting, the price of their equipment and all the gold they find, which they make it seem they find gold on every outing. With all the crime that's been going around lately, its just a matter of time before detectorist get targeted and robbed due to these videos..
So many fake YouTube channels! Mine is no fake: @KensMetalDetectingFinds

no surprise to you and me that those MD who show their car (POS), find gold on every hunt (FAKE) and show their locations (unfortunately) almost deserve to get robbed by punks who will then find out that they don't have much if anything to give them.
People seem to like watching that fake stuff! My YouTube channel just hit 1,000+ subscribers and it was a lot of work let me tell you! Check it out: @KensMetalDetectingFinds

Cranking out "expert tips" videos when you've barely hunted for a year is pretty weak don't cha think ? Typical clickbait. Good lord , if your gonna incessantly plug your channel , man up and be a supporter or sponsor here. Telling complete strangers walking by you found 5 rings will not bode well for you. Obviously all you care about is becoming the next Mr.Beast of MDing videos. Next you will be reviewing ebikes and wheelchairs , lol. Keep the vids under 20 min for more subs. For EPIC how to do proper videos look up Detecting on the Spectrum.🤣

Ebikes.. HHAHAHAHA.. I saw what you did there.. He finds like 5 rings a hunt to... KOB, maybe we just suck.

Really you guys ? REALLY ? Our md'ing forums are FILLED with show & tell. And we all collect our well-deserved atteboys. Right ? EVEN SOME VALUABLE STUFF is shown off here, when we show our trophies back and forth.

So can you cite to me ANY incident, of someone "getting their house robbed", because a crook was scrolling through md'ing forums, and deciding what house to target for a robbery ?

I'm sorry, but this is just ridiculous. If a thief wants to figure out what houses to target for a burglary, do you REALLY think he's reading geeky md'ing forums like this, to decide what home to target ? Really ?

Hey Tommy, The problem is when these you tubers show TOO MUCH detail in their videos...

Tom , you really don't know what your talking about. Picking through certain paragraphs and ignoring others to fit your narrative is untruthful. Then when ever ANYBODY proves you wrong , you always say it's a one-off. The exception to the rule. BS and you know it.

I believe Lowtide posted recently about his experience of his car broken into. Burglars may not be targeting homes off youtube but you do get targeted car break ins. You just don't have the MDing scene where you live compared to down south. Guys are somewhat protective here and you just need to accept that fact. Especially guys who know their stuff and been doing it a long time. They are not short sighted on the hobby compared to the get rich quick Youtubers , exposing everything to the masses....

We can drive through a lot or down a street and know who is hunting where. Some can even figure what address their plate is tied to. And some cars are even tracked...

......Then when ever ANYBODY proves you wrong , you always say it's a one-off.........

Kob, fair enough. Ok, can you cite me any links or incidents to md'rs, having their homes targeted for home robbery, because of a show & tell post they made, on an md'ing forum show & tell ? I'm game. Got a link ?

Why would I do that ? Just so we can all here "That was a fluke". They may not be all publicly made either , many crimes go unreported. But AGAIN.... I cited there was a recent post post regarding a car burglary that you fail to acknowledge. Anyways , I done with talking in circles. Later.

........... Anyways ,........

Kob, I'm trying hard to understand. You say :

".... I cited there was a recent post post regarding a car burglary that you fail to acknowledge...."

And you also said :

".... his experience of his car broken into. Burglars may not be targeting homes off youtube ...."

I want you to pay close attention to the key words in the above ^ ^ quote : "... may not be..."

So you yourself grant that a burglary may in fact, be , as you yourself say, just : Random car burglary. Right ? And not because of a show & tell post, or Youtube, etc... Ok, great : THEN WE AGREE that there's not a necessary connection then. Ok ? So : Let's be friends again. Ok ? :friends:

What I'm saying is there could be. Everything is not always definitive. Someone could be watching a hunter get out of their car ( or a rich looking person) and target that vehicle when they leave. No different than "bank jugging". Famous celebrities post on social media often where they are and burglars target their home because they know they ain't home. But are criminals purposefully targeting beach hunters en mass ? How the heck knows , probably not.

Ok, but statistically speaking : We've seen some valuable stuff posted here over the years. Right ? Key date gold and silver coins worth $$. Even a few caches have shown up on our show & tells here. Right ? And I suppose, with a little work, someone could sleuth out a name to get beyond the avatar pen name. And a geographic location. And from that, pinpoint someone's home location. In this digital day & age (social media), it is amazing, as you know.

But to my knowledge, this isn't stopping each of us from posting our hobby exploits.

I suppose that, yes, *it's possible* that a thief is scrolling through geeky md'ing forum show & tell, to decide where to target. But if "measure of wealth" is the key ingredient for what houses to target, wouldn't it be just as easy for the thief to just go by zip-code ? (since neighborhoods tend to be distinctive by affluence). Or to simply make note of what type of car is parked in each person's driveway ? Ie.: If it's a late model Beamer or Porshe (as opposed to a Ford Pinto), then : Odds are, the homeowner is more affluent. Eh ?

True , if you want to increase your odds. But you can't discount the fact that many wealthy people don't show it. They drive crappy cars and don't all live in Beverly Hills. There have been many follow home robberies in the last few years from people shopping in malls , jewelry stores , etc. It's all over our news.

I've noticed that most of the MD'ing videos that aren't tutorial/info type about something I'm trying to specifically
learn I generally will watch the first 3-5 minutes (if that) to see the general conditions of the area, equipment used,
and the type of detecting that was being done and then fast forward to the wrap up at the end...

I watched a youtube MD video about 3 months ago. The person started their video at their home. They got on an EBike that they were pushing from a sponsor on their Channel. Rode the bike down to the beach. In the video they had EVERY street sign of every intersection to their destination. It's VERY easy to google map their place. I was bored at work & mapped out their SECRET hunting spot in about 5 minutes. I'm not a crook or a petty thief or a perp but of the 30k subscribers of this guys channel, one, two or ten could be. This MD posts every week to keep his YouTube metrics on money making mode showcasing his vast amount of jewelry that he "finds". Often 5 gold rings PER HUNT////// REALLY? Don't you think if some moron was down on their luck & needed some $ thinking that the MD's ring was worth several hundred ea instead of what we know is maybe 50 bucks. That they could easily case and rob the place looking for the MD gold stash? Does there have to be a link to someone who's been robbed to prove your viewpoint? Would the victim even know the reason(s) why they were robbed other than assuming it was random? Would they post up if they were robbed? To ignorant to realize that it was because they put bread crumbs everywhere for the perp to follow.
It doesn't have to happen before its moronic. It's moronic that they let themselves become vulnerable and stupid so that it COULD happen.
Tom I'm always reading your posts & you've been educating people forever on tides, winds, ebb & flow. To me you seem like a decently educated person, & a good guy, however you also seem (and I could be wrong) that you are the type that simply cannot be wrong. Willing to bite tooth & nail to be right.

I posted about how my truck was nearly broken into and vandalized while hunting. It wasn't some YouTube viewer as I don't post, well not for over a year at that time anyways. I started to years ago & was smart enough to not post when locations were popping off or my home or my vehicle. etc. I was targeted because, well,... it was the beach & multiple vehicles got hit that day. It was just smash & grab.... OR maybe they saw me walking away from my rig and knew w/common sense that my common sense was to keep my wallet and stuff in my car as 90% of people do at the beach.

I don't know the age of the poster, but from most of what I've read about gen z and gen α their concepts of
privacy, private space, and safety are radically different than previous generations.

It may be due to growing up with technology that no previous generation had to deal with and most of which
was likely not even imagined outside of science fiction.
