We have had two 3.6l v6 engines in the shop with blown head gaskets on cyl #2!
The first in a Jeep, now a dodge ram.
Also a dodge minivan with a bad exhaust valve! Beware of the pentastar 3.6!

I bought a Fiat new in the 1970's, worst mistake ever, now Dodge is owned by Fiat.

I hope the “The GDI version of 3.3 Lambda II engine (the G6DH)” is a lot better an engine. So far I’ve enjoyed it a lot. Just over 100,000 miles now. Hyundai Santa Fe.

In my 74 years I have had good vehicles and I have had good vehicles. I have had the good ones that performed great, gave little trouble, and were reliable to the point I drove them till time and miles finally took them out. And I also had the good ones that were good for nothing! :foottap: I have gotten to the point I can, for the most part tell shortly after getting a new/newer vehicle it it will be a winner or a dud. Worst vehicle I had was a Mazda with the Wankel rotary engine. Dang, I hated that piece of junk.:rifle:

Dad owns a 2002 Dodge Ram, bought new. V8, 52k miles, stored each winter. The truck is immaculate, lots of interest when he takes it out. Every time he offers it for sale he backs out at the last minute. Dad’s 89 this month, and says, “if I sold it, I’d have to buy another truck!”

Do not, I repeat do not buy a Nissan frontier......worst decision i ever made

What year Frontier and what issues did you have? I am thinking about replacing my truck and a Frontier is on the short list.

It's sad but starting next yr Tacoma are ONLY coming with turbo 4 cyl...
Terrible decision on their part...
The govts. pressure on car Co's to increase gas milage isn't doing citizens any favors...

2017 4 door 4 wheel drive, it is so bad do not buy. Currently 70,000 miles on it and here is the list: broken both rear leaf springs(common with them), had to replace rear diff(the pressure relief valve is dissimilar metals and corroded shut forcing a seal to blow(again common with them), has the turning radius of a diesel duelly, constant evap issues because dust gets into the system through the fuel filler neck and blocks flow and or makes a little valve stick shut, windows constantly having problems, and I'm sure I am forgetting more. everything about it is just cheap and I have already had to put more money into it then just buying a Toyota or something else in the first place. Nissan frontiers are the "right price" for all the wrong reasons

So, you have a 2017 2nd gen. with the 4.0 V-6 and 5 speed autos. I am looking at a 2024 PRO-4X with the newer 3.8 V-6 and 8 speed autos. Nissan started using that combo in the 2020 model year, so they had 4 years to work out the bugs. I have heard of some people reporting transmission issues but other than that it seems like a solid truck.

All the other 2024 mid-size trucks (Toyota, Chevy, GMC & Ford) have smaller forced induction engines that I want to avoid. Technology is great when it works but can be expensive when it fails. I can get a new PRO-4X priced in the low 40s. Any of the other brands equipped the way I would want would be in the high 40s or low 50s.

Good luck, that many mistakes is enough for me to never trust that company again. Buying anything quality is getting harder to do now.

Based on the issues you had I cannot blame you for not being a Nissan fan. Currently between my wife and I we have five vehicles. Two of them are 2nd gen Nissan Xterras. I have a 2005 Off Road (72-K) and me wife has a 2008 SE (106-K). For the most part they have been good solid reliably with few issues. To date we have had no evaporator issues or window issues but at 98-K the rear axle on my wife’s Xterra started to get vocal. I picked up a used axle for $400.00 and installed it in my driveway. The rear axles in the non Off Road or PRO-4X trims levels seem to be weak.
