I started my day with my friend. He has a saw mill and a friend of his had a large log that come out of his yard. He asked me to bring my detector to see if there where nails in this log. While I was looking at it. I suddenly heard someone yelling for help! I ran down there. A guy was cutting wood. A big log fell on his foot. I started his saw and cut the log. He got his foot out and it wasn’t broken. That was my good deed for the day. Than we went to the farm to give some sick cattle shots. When we where separating them one charged me but I just kinda jumped up and road his head for a few feet. Once we move them out of the barn we found that one had died. He wasn’t big but it took three of use to drag him out of the barn. After going home and getting some lunch. I went out to do some metal detecting. It’s deer hunting season here. Which limits the places I can go. Just down the road a mile was a 1800s school house. It’s out in a open field far from woods and not far from some homes. So I thought that would be safe place to hunt. I wanted to try my new machine there anyway. I asked permission and started hunting. This site was hard for me to find last year because there was so little signals there. So I was hoping for just a button. I did find a button. It’s small with a fancy pattern on it. I’ve not see this small of a button with fancy on it. Found a IHP 1865 and a first for me. A very worn trine. I thought it was a button but I couldn’t find a shank. Than I figured it out. WOW I love finding these odd denominations! This is a great hobby! And this was a amazing adventure to day.

I use to swing a F75. That is a very good detector. I hunt a lot of open fields with not many targets. The f75 will hold its own with almost any detector in this kind of hunting. But I also like to hunt old home sites with lots of nails. That’s where the F75 don’t keep up with the new detectors. I moved up to a Equinox 900. A great detector! Would I have found these things with my F75? Probably because this site has very little signals. The 900 in the heavy nail is almost magical. I had been over two different site with my F75 dozens of times with different coils. As a result there where almost no targets to dig. I took the 900 in and there where targets every where. It was a lot of fun going back to old site to see what I’d missed.

Good story and good on you Andy for thinking quick enough and helping the guy out. Looks like some good karma didn't take long to find you. Congrats on the Ihp, trime and button. Well done. Hope to dig a trime someday. Good luck. Mark

This site gave up two silvers. One in great shape and one let say it has a little ware on it. I’ll take them anyway I can get them. Silver doesn’t come easy for me.
