I wanted to share a little bit of information with you about what happens behind the scenes here at FMDF.
Today, November 21, 2017 we received in excess of 400 registration requests from prospective new members. That number moves up and down daily, but it is usually in the 300 to 500 registrations/day, except on weekends, were the number of requests drops dramatically to about 10 or so per day.
You would think weekends would be the time when people think about MD'ing and joining a forum, no? Well, yes and no. Most weekends the registration requests come mostly from real hobbyists and are promptly approved by Craig (forum name Cfmct) or I. Unfortunately out of the 400 registration applications received today, only 5 were approved, the other 395 were spammers!
Fortunately most of the spammers are caught by our automated tools, but many of them get past the automated screens and then it is up to Craig and I to do a bit of sleuthing and determine wether to let them in or not. This is a time consuming task, but if you belong to some of the other large metal detecting forums, you can see the results. November to date, only one spammer got past us and made four spam posts before we disposed of him and his posts.
