    Impossible to ID coin?

    This is a coin I found near my rose bushes in Virginia. Weighs 8 grams, 28 to 29mm in diameter, and is encrusted in iron so don't know the metal id. I can make out a 6 but thats about it? Please help out if you can and also suggest some affordable cleaning solution/tools. Appreciated!

The way I've always rationalized it to myself is that in in California we don't have dozens of colonial coppers and $5 gold pieces per square foot like the East Coast guys...
