Tilling a new garden in my backyard in Northern Virginia and unearthed this ax head. I have no clue what I’m looking at so I’d love some help in figuring out how old it is, etc. it was in an area that could have been untouched for a long time.
No real way of knowing. A lot of that sort of thing we make ourselves. We still drift the eye the same way and everything, so without anything that could be identified as a specific style to date it I couldn't even hazard a guess.Great! Thanks! Any estimate on the timeframe?
Yep! It's a hot cut. I have one similar that I use.
No. Cross-peen and straight-peen hammers are very different from this. The blunt end on a fuller or cutting tool is intended to be struck, whereas a hammer has striking surfaces. A Straight-peen would also not have an edge on it's striking surface, it would be more rounded.Hey Longhair, would that also be called a straight peen hammer?
