X pointer

Look what is happening, we have a dealer on board who managed to post some warranty data here of the forum. That is progress but not near enough. Let's get it on a card and in the box prior to it being shipped to the customer. This is not about whether or not the product is good or bad but about the system selling them whether or not can be adjusted to elevate their business practices up to a more suitable standard so this kind of question does not have to be asked.

As far as "reverse engineering", what exactly would they reverse engineer? Is there another pin pointer on the market like it? I will admit it looks a LOT like the pro pointer with a extra button but the technology is not the same, the Xpointer is a Pulse Induction pin pointer, and I am not sure but I don't believe any of the top 4 are PI are they?

HH,
Rich

I am far from an expert. I have an F2 with the included F-Pointer. The F-Pointer has been better than nothing but I definitely wanted to upgrade the pin pointer.

I have done a lot of research. I wanted a TRX but would have a hard time convincing the wife that $150+ for a pin pointer was a necessity, especially since I am unable to MD more often than I do. Garrett seems like a great company with service to match but too many people complaining about issues.

I finally decided on the X-Pointer. It wasn't easy because I am concerned about service if the X-Pointer ever needs it. What swayed me was the fact that more legit sellers are now offering the X-Pointer and the price could be sold on the wife. In fact, I purchased from a sponsor on this site. Kudos to Colonial Metal Detectors for very fast shipping.

My impression is based on one outing. However, this is definitely not related to the cheap Chinese Garrett Pro Pointer fakes out there. It feels solid and works as advertised. It only went off when it detected something. My F2 came across a solid signal that was at least 6 inches down. I know that this is usually a coke can. I placed the X-Pointer on the ground and it started beeping. I dug a hole at least 7 inches down and sure enough there was the can. Not bad for a $90 pin pointer. It passed the first test. Lets hope it is made well enough to last.

I did find their site and it does show the product but what does "serviced in the US mean?" The name and physical address should be boldly displayed along with contact information so perspective buyers know who they have to deal with if they have a problem.

Wouldn't you just deal with the company/person who sold you the unit - Its usually the normal way to do it -

I am quite surprised there is so much interest in them - after all, they are made in China and usually anything made in China around here gets knocked

Great, you are a dealer now. Please post a copy of the warranty data (warranty cards), phone numbers, location and address of the service center, and booklet accompanying the product showing the manufactures data, FCC data and safety information.

Lol thats alot of info! What else do you need ;)

Birth Certificate of the Chinaman making it perhaps:laughing:

I owned one and began the research when I discovered that I got a box , a pointer and a half sheet with some base instructions on it. Even the box does not have any information about warranty, manufacture data, phone numbers or anything else other than pictures and product name. I looked at the address for gold diggers and the Google earth thing showed some residence. Maybe the process I did with Google was wrong because I am not the greatest internet person. All pertinent data should be in the box along with the product at the time of sale. This after the sale business does not seem right to me. This is why I asked so many questions. With respect to the buyers, the selling distributor should have had all this in place prior to this marketing adventure.

I beg to differ - You buy a product from a authorized distributor - It dies - you contact the authorized distributor for repair or replacement - They then will tell you want to do - Whats the problem?

You are going on about 'what ifs' - 'What if' Garrett made a Pro Pointer that did not false? = I suspect these Chinese ones would be a lot harder to sell .....

I own a pistol probe that's made in China. It's lasted 4 years already. Problem is some things you buy you get told to deal with the manufacturer when you call a dealer. Had to send a brand new Whites BHID to Whites when the only light that worked was the red one for example. Pro find you need to send to Minelab. Brand new Ace 350 the screen went out. Had to go to Garrett. I know in the UK they used to get wound up shipping a propointer over seas due to expensive shipping costs.

Go ahead and buy one and you will see that you only get a generic looking black pointer a box and a half sheet of instructions. Not a single word about distributor, dealer, warranty, or anything else other than the name of the pointer. Now Sir, take that available data and do your contact. Until I started asking questions that was all the data that was available to one who purchased that product. Now the dealers have backed out and you are on your own to contact the distributor on your own. A FEW WORDS ON A FORUM THREAD DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A WARRANTY. As far as Garrett is concerned, I believe their failure to build reliable equipment like the Gpp is hurting their sales.

Well bart gave info on warranty. This isnt the price of a metal detector. Its $89 ;) thats it. So if you dont want to risk $89 then dont. There is a 2 year warranty and a dealer to send it back to. Good enough for me. Mine is working extremely good .. Use it daily and its a better pointer than my gpp as of now. Time will tell how good this pointer is. Sounds like your not satisfied with it already. Dont torture yourself any longer buy a different brand ;)

your words "there is 2 year warranty and a DEALER to send it back to.

Barts words "Gold Digger is the authorized repair station for the pointers. On this particular item YOU ARE REQUIRED TO SEND IT TO THEM for any warranty work. As I said before I talked to them and they are fully setup to repair them.

I purchased from a authorized dealer and my questions to him were not answered so I went looking and the more I looked the more questions I have.

This is not about dealer anything, it is about distributor and what was not done day one.

Barts explanation of warranty terms is just that an explanation. What is needed is formal warranty cards in the box at time of sale just like all the other metal detecting marketing company's we deal with do. Try to take a few words on a forum thread to court and use that as a warranty and see how far you would get.

I get what your saying. Its $89 thats it. Ive spent that much on shipping other items back several times for warranty repair .. I would not have bought it if it was a china made etrac. Its a chance i was willing to take. Just dont buy one

I have all the faith in the world that when purchasing a product from Bart or other forum sponsors, I will never be left "on my own". Most will bend over backwards to help you out and are not in the habit of selling junk just to make a buck.

Thanks again bart. The xpointer is my favorite pinpointer as of now. Simple easy to adjust and works very very good. Very quick on and off too! If you like quiet as a church mouse til a target is close the buy an xpointer ;)

I may pick one up. Its 89 bucks. If something happens I doubt I'll go to court over 89 dollars. I have no doubt that a sponsor on this forum would make it right if it came to that.

If you have a Garrett's or White's pinpointer that is a year and a half old and it breaks, do you send it to the dealer or to an authorized service center or directly to the manufacturer?

I would contact the seller & follow their instructions - my life's a little less complicated as I tend not to worry about shite breaking until it actually happens - Imagine all that extra worrying & drama you have to put up with

At $89.00 it appears to be a great buy, regardless of where its made - All you should be worrying about is, how good a reputation do the people have that are selling them?

Do you think these sellers are going to throw away years of building goodwill & a huge customer base, on a shoddy Chinese product?

Its all a bit hard isn't it?

I think the real question should be is the extra $30-$60 extra worth the comfort of knowing that spending an additional $30 shipping you can get repaired something that should work in the first place.
