Would you open it ? Opened see P.9

My son came over today and we opened the box. Used a hacksaw, took my time and got it done. The "92" was from 1892. I was fairly pleased with the contents, was not "Geraldoized," and as promised will post photos ................ Tomorrow !

While not a fortune, it was still cool.

Hope you'll all enjoy tomorrows post.

WAIT A MINUTE HERE! You're in New Hampshire according to your profile so IT'S ALREADY TOMORROW for you now! Get out of bed and give with some details and pic's dude!!

Let's have the Admins turn off his image viewing privileges... That way he can read all about our neat finds but won't be able to SEE any of the pic's!!!

All right already,

Been a busy day (yesterday) but here goes..................

We got it opened and there really was something inside. I'll let the photo show the contents. Pretty cool !

Unfortunately there was probably some pretty interesting document/note in there that would really have made this great. Even though the box was sealed pretty well, some moisture made its way in and destroyed it.:(

While not a monumental find by any means. This has been fun and it's why I enjoy this hobby.

HH All and may you all get to find a little Box.

Whoa! cool... I hope I was the first here to see... I've been quietly monitoring this thread... Thats awesome! Hopefully I'll find something like that someday! Time capsule... Nice... Too bad the people that burried it are dead now. They would have loved to see it in their old age. You should subit it to Garret and get a free pro-pointer! You would win.

Glad it was opened, congrats on the coins, the barber looks great! too bad the paper went to crap, would've been nice to know the tale behind it....

Am I missing something........Is that an 1882 or 1892 barber dime? I thought the earliest barber dime was 1892? I'm confused someone please correct me if i'm wrong. Cool find BTW !!!!

Sorry late night (typo). You are correct it is an 1892, just like the # on the box. Same as the IH which cleaned up OK. Too bad it got so corroded, I'll bet it went in pristine. Don't know how the moisture worked it's way in. Thanks for pointing out my error.

Too bad there weren't ziplock bags in 1892....

This was an enthralling thread with a great ending, though the mystery is still there. I think you should contact your local paper so they can run a story. You may get more information from some "old timers" about your mystery box.

I'm going back through and read it again!

Wow, that dime is in great shape! Can we see a closeup of the dime? Does it have a mint mark?

Very nice! I bet waiting to open it let in air which speed corroded the coins that were otherwise in mint condition when you found the box. Just kidding but the suspense was hard to take...

Thanks.

I think all those old timers have probably moved on.
