Would you open it ? Opened see P.9

Very nice! I bet waiting to open it let in air which speed corroded the coins that were otherwise in mint condition when you found the box. :lol: Just kidding but the suspense was hard to take... :cool:

:grin:

Fun though !!

I just saw this thread and read through the whole thing. I understand the initial dilemna to open or not open and respect you for it. You have found a very nice piece of history there, and the box is one of the coolest things I've ever seen on any online forum. Anyone could go out and buy those two 1892 coins but to find them in that box, build up the suspense and then reveal them......just AWESOME!!!

congrats on finally popping that thing open, couple of great looking coins! too bad the paper stuff didn't survive, i'm sure it would have explained the "mystery' behind it, likely a time capsule. or a poor mans cache (11 cents). oh wait a sec, that's about all I would have to spare for a cache. :lol::lol::lol:
but thanks for the posting and the update. :D

I would say a time capsule also.

I had some men tell me about a time capsule buried at the site of a former High School that had been gone for years. It was buried ten feet in front of the flag pole. The only problem, no one remembers where the school actually was, let alone the flag pole.

:confetti::thankyou::wave::thankyou::confetti:

Thanks for opening that thing up! What a cool find - both the box itself and its' contents!

You know that my earlier posts were in jest? I would NEVER have the Admins cut your privileges...

psssst...hey Admins, never mind... WHAT? what do you mean the mic's still on? :lol: :lol: :lol:

I think the box was just a taste of the treasure to follow. Why would someone go out of their way to seal a lead box with two coins and a vial fill with a message? Not much of a time capsule if you ask me... I think that paper was a map or description explaining where the rest of the loot is..;-) They put the coins in there for you to get a taste of whats to come..When was the old high school errected? 1892? If not what is the significance of the box then? I think there is more to the story behind that box. To bad the paper is unledgeable..
