Why dig pull tabs ?

Nice! One year I dug up over 400 pull tabs and all I managed was a few junk rings then last year I had two gold rings with less than 50 pull tabs. You just never know.

Pull tabs

I'll be the first to buy the dectector that can null out pull tabs without also nulling out nickles and gold jewelry. I pretty much am sure when it is a pull tab based on the numbers, the tones, and the consistency of the tones coming from different directions. But lurking in the back of my mind I am saying to myself that I probably am passing up some good targets too.
My very first gold ring of last year came up as a pull tab but something about the way it sounded made me dig it. And there is was, a beautiful 14K wedding ring.
Getting to know your detector and what it is saying to you is all important. At first it speaks Chinese to you but if you learn its language you will be better off.

ramer - Exactly right on knowing your machine. Mine is like an extension of my brain. I've had it 18 years now and am still experimenting with it. Steve

One thing I found out quickly in last weekend's group hunt, was that by accepting and digging tabs and all, makes you the last guy in coin count when all is done. There ain't that much gold treasure here in Texas anyway, so I've realigned my methology in hunting to simply target the VDIs for coinage and skip most all the low tones. Shallow low tones on a sports field, sure, but otherwise you are going to get way behind in collecting quarters that the other hunters are raking in. Gold is so hard to find here, it hardly makes sense to linger on the low tones at all. martin

Great ring!

That sapphire looks great!!! You should have a jewler check the quality of it. Better sapphires can be worth quite a bit more, based on color, and condition, cut, and if it is a natural color or heat treated. I would definately have a jewler check it out. It looks NICE and deep!

Congrats on the ring, and your post is great advice to anyone, noob or seasoned pro who just hates digging those pulltabs.

Congrats on that ring!

Also, thanks for posting this. I now know that I have to dig more pulltabs than I have been digging. I believe! I believe!

Yes, you keep telling me I'm gonna hit something like this if I keep digging pulltabs! How much longer?

just digging

:wow::?::?: And thats why you dig pull tabs.
I save pull tabs, i take them to Mc.Donalds. they help Ronald Mc.Donald House'' for people to stay in, when a family member is in the hospital's
:D :D :D

I'm saving the pull tabs in a 5 gallon bucket, just curious about how much it's going to weigh, full. About 1/3 of the way there...

I tend to walk over the same ground often, so it gets a little cleaner. Really kind of getting the feeling this neighborhood has been cleaned out of coins, and good stuff. Occasional nickel, dime, or penny, few quarters on the surface. Do find and unusual number of brass fittings...

Figure persistence pays off in the long run, and if you are finding anything, you know there were people...

Harvey - As for cleaning out the site - I figure if I am going back again sometime in the future why work through the junk again, steve

Sweet find! ~

I dig the tabs figuring once they are gone I can sweep through a popular area in the fall and just nail mostly good stuff.
