Just want some advice on who to buy from. Or not.
Amazon?
Manufacturers website?
General Metal detector site?
Or a brick and mortar store?
Any other suggestions?

And maybe this will help in my decision. What brand should I stay away from?
Am looking for something around $500
Looking at Whites, Garrett, Fisher

I know there are a lot of opinions and I appreciate all of them.
I am a beginner, but I don't want to have to upgrade in a year, so am looking for a mid range. Mostly for woods, some beach. Would like 3 tone and depth gauge. Looking to find anything, not just coins.

Thanks. Can't wait to get out there.

Same as the above! Some good sponsors here!

Deadbolt I would do your research and find out what kind of detecting you want to do first. Coin? Relic? Gold? That will be a major factor on what machine to buy. Kind of get an idea and call one of us sponsors here on this site. We all would be happy to happy to help you.

Thanks, Bart

You don't need multiple tones for where you will be hunting and for what you're hunting for. Woods usually don't have a lot of trash and you dig every repeatable target. Same goes for the beach. You need a detector that's super light weight that you can swing all day long without pain that detects super deep. You need a Tesoro Vaquero! It comes with a lifetime warranty and the best customer service on planet Earth.

Yes, super deep!

A lot of the sponsors here are actual, factual hunters like you and I. That, I believe, makes all the difference. When they give you advice, they know what they're talking about.

+1... Give Bart a call. I've ordered from a few sponsors on the forum but Bart by far is the easiest to get a hold of and he'll give a heck of a deal!

MD Choice

Yes Call Bart!!! I have dealt with several sponsors here and Bart at Big Boys Hobbies is the most professional and fastest shipper!!! Oh and his prices are great also. You will get a lot of good advice and recommendations here, realize that many people will recommend whatever brand MD they have and are using. I say buy a Minelab Xterra 705GP it is the greatest MD since they invented Peanut butter( I bet you didn't know Minelab invented peanut butter) LOL. I'm just kidding not only about the peanut butter thing but Minelabs also, they aren't the MD for everybody! If you contact N.E.D. New England Detectors, Make sure you talk to Andrew!!! Oh yeah Welcome to the forum from Lake Dallas Texas,,,, Good Luck and Happy Hunting.....:biker::digginahole::biker:

Hi Bart, You have a great website. I've been watching videos of the different detectors and really like the fisher f4 and the teknetics gamma 6000. Just a couple questions please. Will all detectors find gold? Not that I'm looking for gold, but it would be nice. Differences between f2, f4, f5?
As soon as I have enough money saved, I'll be giving you a call. Thanks again, Randy
PS: Probably Relic hunting mostly

I just bought an AT Pro from Gene at Kellyco and it was a perfect transaction. Great price and it came with a ton of extras.

Feel free to give me a call. Be easier to explain the different options.

im not impressed with new england detectors.

nothing but the runaround. use caution if you use these guys.

i have to give marcus at Hollands Brook a shoutout, he hooked me up with an F2 yesterday, best price i could find.

Whoever you buy from do it throug the pm system here. Several good folks...do yourself a favor and Talk with all of them

I know deciding on a detector can be difficult, so many great detectors to choose from. But you might want to check on adding a pin pointer as a package. The pro pointer is one of the best but it is around 125.00. GL HH. Tom
