Hello Everyone,
This is GetDiggin', It has been so many years since my health get down hill and I had to give up the hobby so I am not sure if anyone here even remembers me, but my health still definitely isn't 100%, but it's to a point that I really want to get back into the hobby so I can get much needed exercise. I contacted a old friend of mine to talk to him about a new detector purchase, but it's been soooo long since I've been in the hobby that I definitely don't know what's good or bad these days lol. So I thought I would make a post here and lost off a few things and see if I can get some suggestions.

I will start off by saying, about 2 years ago I was thinking about coming back to the hobby too, but then my health denied that but at that time I was looking at the Nokta Simplex+, so that maybe still a option if you guys have some opinions on that after I explain my situation, but then again after I go over everything there might be a better option for me as well.

So back in the day when I was super active in the forums and in the hobby I had probably about 15 Detectors or even more lol, so I have tried so many but to be honest I don't remember much about any of them lol. I do remember that I had two favorite Detectors though which was the White's Spectra V3i & the XP Deus. Unfortunately these days I am not looking for a $1,000+ detector, at least not for my first detector back. I am looking to spend $600 or less, preferably less but I am willing to go up to $600 for the "Right" detector. Also like I mentioned my health still is not 100% so I would prefer a detector that is on the lighter side, one of the great things about the XP Deus, I have heard that XP makes some other good Detectors these days too, if there is another ultra light weight XP $600 or less. I will not be water hunting right away, BUT if health permits later on, I wouldn't be opposed to it, it was one of the reasons I was thinking about the Nokta Simplex+, but waterproof isn't a must have though either, because I am guessing water/Beach Detecting won't be for a bit, so if I want to go that route I can always upgrade later on.

Ok so the lighter the better but XP Deus weight isn't a must, just something on the lighter side and not a beast like the White's Spectra V3i was lol.I do a lot of Farm Field hunting, but also like Parks. I want something with a great display and discrimination. Also since I've been out of the hobby for so long that I would like a detector that will be on the easier side to master. I also would like a detector that has pretty good depths, because the farm fields I will be hunting in have been plowed or have homesteads on them, so need as much depth as possible. I will go ahead and post the Detectors that I was thinking about below, but these options are only options and not a "must", again I'm asking for the communities opinions 😉

#1) XP Deus Option 1 or Option 2 (bit over budget)
#2) Nokta Simplex+
#3) Garrett APEX
#4) Minelab Equinox 600
#5) Honorable Mention (this is a maybe if enough people suggest, because its over budget) Minelab Equinox 700
#6) Honorable Mention #2 (again over budget) Nokta Legend I added this one because it was actually suggested by a friend and he mentioned it was a great detector and also mentioned it was waterproof up to like 20ft which is deeper than I'd ever go. Also I found THIS
EDIT: just came across this Minelab X-Terra as well, I haven't even seen this Detector until just now.

The reason I listed a couple "Over Budget" Detectors is because if those are the "right" detector for me, I would think about going that $100 over, but also I remember this community being A++ for buying & selling used Detectors, so I would even consider buying used too.

Ok so those are the Detectors I have been looking at, again I've been out of the hobby for probably near 8 years, so I know absolutely nothing about these Detectors beside what I've read about them and I've watched quite a few videos on the Nokta Simplex+. I don't know the weights on them or anything, which I guess I should have looked that up lol, but I'm sure some of you guys might know off the top of your heads. So I'll end the post here but there was one other thing I wanted to ask, back in the day the Pinpointer selection was pretty limited, I obviously had the Garrett Pro Pointer, and I also had a Minelab Pro-Find, I think back then there was only one available but I am pretty sure they have several to pick from these days, is the $99 Minelab Pro-Find 35 a decent Pinpointer?

Thanks for any advice folks 😀

I've had four of your mentioned 6 machines. I would add two, the Nokta Double Score and the XP ORX.

The Double Score is simpler than its siblings Legend and Simplex+.

Has upper and lower carbon fiber shafts and is lightweight.

And the XP ORX is a grab and go Deus with four programs instead of a dozen. And the lightness is a dream come true.

Hi there buddy, Thank you for the reply. I have heard the name Nokta Double Score, but I've actually never looked into that machine, I'll definitely look into it a bit and see what it's all about. As far as the XP ORX, i always thought that was a detector that was designed mainly for Gold Prospecting. I know that it could still do other stuff, but if it's main focus is Gold Prospecting wouldn't it be better to get a "multi purpose" type detector over it? Gold Prospecting is something I've never even done before hehe besides looking for gold jewelry on the beach :-P. I will still go ahead and take a look at it tho and maybe watch some videos on it and see what's up with it. The lightness of the XP Detectors is something that could very well be a deal winner, because I have a Bad Back, Shoulder and Hip lol, basically the 3 things desperately needed for metal Detecting haha. I remember when I first got my XP Deus back in the way and I was able to remove my remote and put it on my wrist or pants and the detector practically weighed nothing was a absolute game changer.

EDIT: by the way, was on of the ones you owned the Garrett APEX? Because that is one of the Detectors that I know absolutely nothing about, I should definitely watch some videos about that one as well, because that was another one of the Detectors that was suggested to me by a friend. I am from Michigan, so I guess I should have also mentioned that because Michigan has some crazy ass mineralized soil all around, so a multi frequency machine is probably pretty important. I wouldn't mind something with changeable frequencies, but I definitely think a machine with like simultaneous multi frequency or whatever it's called that auto switches between frequencies.

Welcome back!

I'm in the same boat. Health made my choice fairly easy. I found a good use Deus for $500 with the 9" high frequency coil. I've seen a few now in the $400 range, but I'm happy as can be with mine.

Hi Bud, Thanks for the Warm Welcoming! Also quick question. What Deus did you pick up for $500? The regular XP Deus? Or the Deus 2 or the XP ORX? I'm just curious of you got a Deus with a Remote? Or just the headphones? I would definitely want a Remote with mine if I went back to the XP Deus

I got the whole kit and caboodle. Wireless WS4 headphones, Remote control. It is the full-blown Deus. I have seen the same setups in the $400 range here lately. I just looked and saw a few full Deus that sold in the $300 range. These are with everything, remote, WS4 wireless headphones, and x35 coils. I'd ask a few of the dealers on here.

The ORX has two coin programs and two gold programs.
The Apex is nice and light. Big screen.
My shop owner offered me one at cost a year or so ago. Said they were just too noisy.
Kick my self for not buying one. Now he sings their praises, says Garrett upgraded the software or something.
Not a fan of the shaft though, it is the old push pin adjustment.
Where are you in Michigan? I'm in Benton Harbor/ St.Joe. great beaches.

EDIT: after that long a** post, I forgot to mention where I am located, I am basically the complete opposite of where you're from lmao. I am from Port Huron, MI. Basically the complete opposite coast! Hehe

Thanks for the advice on the XP Deus, because if I can find one for $300-$350 I will 100% going that direction for sure! I loved my XP Deus and the weight of it is **chef's kiss** of course! Tbh I'm not a huge fan of Garrett Detectors that I've owned in the past, 100% just a personal preference because my Dad loves his ACE 250 & AT Pro, but when I had my AT Pro and AT Gold, I always ended up grabbing other Detectors :-/ that being said tho, the Company Garrett itself is amazing!

I use to run a Charity called "Kids Get Diggin'" where we bought metal Detectors and donated them to kids that had rough lives or situations. We helped probably around 100 kids/families get Detectors & equipment/accessories and got them out Detecting and diggin'! With their family members and it was so awesome to do, and all that being said I got in contact with Vaughan Garrett back when the Charity was around and I explained to him what we did and how we basically used our own money to buy the Detectors for the kids and without even being asked he ended up donating a couple dozen Detectors to the charity. Bunch of ACE 150's, ACE 250's and even a couple AT Pros to the charity, which helped so many kids and families.

One always sticks with me because one Family we helped was such a sad story. The young boy was fighting Lukemia and his Grandfather was also fighting cancer as well, which is absolutely crazy, but I talked to the Grandfather for quite some time and they always loved Metal Detecting but couldn't really afford the equipment, so I called Vaughan and told him the situation and sent him some pictures, etc. And Vaughan basically just hooked that Family up! He sent the charity a AT Pro for Grandpa, ACE 250 for Grandson, and a ACE 150 for the boys younger brother and also sent them Pinpointers, Digging tools, towels, bags, etc. basically everything you can think of, and we ended up sending everything over to the family and they absolutely loved it obviously. They sent Vaughan and I a bunch of photos of them using the Detectors and some finds, etc. It was sooo heart melting. Man this was about 10 years ago now, I really hope they got through everything! But ya so Garrett as a company is A+++, sorry for making it such a long response lol, but talking about Garrett's just reminded me of that story. We helped dozens and dozens of kids and families but that particular story is the one that just really stuck with me for obvious reasons hehe.

But ya, thanks again for letting me know about the XP Deus possibility being able to be bought for $300-$350. If anyone reading this has a XP Deus for sale and is in good condition with a remote, send me a message here on the forums. I am 100% a serious buyer for the XP Deus 😀

Thanks,
Rich aka GetDiggin'

I currently own two of the machines you listed - Simplex and the Equinox 600. I use the Simplex primarily at parks and school yards, and the Nox 600 at the beach. They both perform admirably and I have no complaints about either one. With that said, I vote for the Legend. All of the Nokta Makro machines are well built and fairly light. Simultaneous-Mutli-Frequency seems to be the buzzword nowadays, especially at the beach or in challenging soil conditions. Whatever you decide, good luck, happy hunting and welcome back!

Welcome back! Call us at the shop, be glad to answer all your questions!
Hi there Bart!
Long time no see buddy, I know you and I have definitely done some business before, I'm sure everyone here on this particular forums know all about Bart but if not, he is a awesome guy! I ended up talking with Richard over at Backwoods Detectors though (long time dealer & buddy of mine) and he made me a offer I couldn't refuse hehe. Just to update the forums, I ended up just grabbing a Minelab X-Terra Pro for right now, seems like the perfect detector for me to get back into the hobby with, nice and lightweight like I need and even can be fully submerged which is pretty nice to have as well. If my health allows to me to stick with the hobby for another seasonI will ended up passing this X-Terra down to my Dad next season and step into some Big Boy boots for sure! I think next season will be probably getting my XP Deus back, I miss the ol' girl hehe.

One more quick question for everyone though while I still have this post up. I still have my Lesche and my Garrett ProPointer somewhere, but I need to grab my Dad some new accessories, has anyone ever heard of 'DR.ÖTEK' ? The brand seems to make some afford stuff and from what ive seen and read it all seems to be half way decent stuff, you think the items will last a season.. as long as it lasts the season, I'll pass my Lesche and Propointer down to Pops next season and grab myself some new stuff. Here are the two items I was thinking about grabbing for Pops atm..

PinPointer (has. $10 off coupon to, so $40 shipped)
▪︎ or just pay the extra $30 for THIS? Remember only gonna be used one season, either way I go

Digging Tool

Thanks All,
Rich
