Unbelievable - Couldn't wait to share this!! (10/15 update - #7 & #8)

Man this is EPIC! What are the details about this spot! Might want to see if you can find any period newspapers about what was going on in this town.

As a suggestion why not print out some scaled down images of both pin versions & place them inside like the originals.

WTG!

Well I heard back from the first appraiser. Here's his response:

"Thanks for contacting Heritage. This item appears dug and is generally in abysmal condition. Finding a buyer would be a challenge. If placed on eBay, someone might pay $100-$200 for it. Examples in nice condition missing just one photo are worth $5,000. This one is just too far gone.

Donald Ackerman / Consignment Director Historical Department
HERITAGE AUCTIONS"

Nice eh?

I think he just doesn't want these coming into the market. I think they would be worth much more, just because of what they are and how old they are. There would be a lot of collectors ready to pounce on them because they couldn't afford the museum quality that mr. "Heritage Auctions" thinks they should be.

Ha, sounds like bs to me.... Considering the earlier site you posted showed there were only what 4 or five known to exist!? I'm sure he would take them all off your hands for say $1000..... Search around, even dug and without the pictures someone will pay more than that for a piece of history. Crazy....

Congratulations, that is to good to be true!
In order to scour that place properly, I think you need to invite us all for a group hunt:lol::laughing:

Hey, just for giggles, pop one of those suckers on Ebay, post a link and let's see how it does. Don't let anyone know that you have 5 though. Even at $200 buck, that is a killer find.

I agree. Whatever they fetch is still found money. I was just a little ticked with his comment "they appear dug and are in abysmal condition". Because anything dug can't possibly have any significant value to it, right? And I'm sorry, but unless they were in a hermetically sealed jar for the last 150 years, I would imagine even un-dug examples wouldn't be looking too swell. It's clear they are only interested in high-end items. That was obvious when he threw out "if placed on eBay" comment. Yes, we common folk and our eBay. :p

Snob...

If they were mine I'd print out the little pics and pop in to display. Probably not a bad idea to add if you sell them.

Wow, that's totally cool! Did you check the history of where you are digging? Maybe you found an old campaign headquarters?

Huge congrats!:wow:
