The auction listings say the photos were ferrotypes or "tin types" (which were actually printed on painted iron) so I went back yesterday to see if I could find them still in the holes - but no luck. As small as they were, I wonder if they were an early version of a gelatin on paper print and if so, would obviously be gone to the ravages of time.

Oh well, still great to have found them - in whatever condition.

No, "tin type" and ferrotype only refers to the photos. It's obvious from the pics that these are copper or bronze.

Jason's correct. I do normally discriminate iron - these are brass/bronze. I went back to try and find the photos - which should be iron - and scanned again without discrimination. No luck.
