The Hoover Boys are great. It's their personalities and love of the hobby that makes the videos so watchable. They often show the tid before digging and show the large volume of junk they dig in their wrap up. They are also honest when they're not finding anything even going door knocking when a dig site is a bust. They do their research and often start around sunrise and wrap up after dark.
Love them or hate them, they're the real deal.

I'm giving out free relic hunting lessons for you (woodbutcher) and kajunman...
Somtimes I wonder why I just don’t get a tesoro and call it a day.Sure I’ll dig trash, but just think of all those rings and coins partially masked giving incorrect ID ..
If you don't have some sort of GB adjustment, either manual or automatic, your not going to get more depth with a bigger coil. If a detector came with a say a 8 inch concentric coil and you want to put on a 14x16 DD coil on it. Without no way of adjusting the GB for that coil it will be way too positive and depth will be less than the coil the detector is set for. Just saying putting a bigger coil on any machine will give you more depth is not a correct statement. Small coil size changes are fine, going from a 8 inch round to a 10 inch round won't have much effect. But drastic coil size and type changes without being able to GB it, will decrease performance dramatically. All metal mode on the max gains some depth, and a bigger coil on any machine equals more depth. Between the two, you'll reach deeper.
-HOWEVER-
What are you using it for? If relics and you dig everything, skip that and just buy a PI. For example, the Sea Hunter with the big coil is going to be significantly deeper than the Maxx with the big coil, and you'll spend about $650 new.
If you're planning on hunting salt-water beaches. THe ATP/Maxx are both the wrong machines for the job. Go with the NOX...it will hunt dry and wet as well discriminate. The PI will also work great at the beach but it can't disc.
Some people hated the at pro. Obviously that was not the norm. Just like the equinox will not work for some. That will not be the norm either. I see the equinox replacing the at series detectors as the go to machine for new detectorists and experienced users with a limited budget.I just sold my ATPro to a guy who had an Equinox 800 and hated it. So it does happen. I think those who don’t like the Equinox arent going to be real vocal about it on these forums because they don’t want to get bullied and belittled by the “my way or the highway” group. Nothing wrong with the Max. Just learn what it’s telling you and you’ll do fine.
Hoover boys find more in one trip than most do in a year.I don't think you need a nox,or at max.You need to find places where there's coins. Most Hoover videos are in plowed fields,as are Calabash videos,of actually hunting. You want old coins,go where they are.As for your at pro,it's a hell of a machine regardless of opinions.Ypu get yourself in some old fields your at pro will light up with old coins.Any machine will for that matter.
Nobody is putting anyone one down. Guy stopped by and dropped his opinion off about what I said that he didn't agree with. I just answered back with my opinion about what he said...if anyone got belittled it was me ! The guy was making fun of my crocs!
