The Find of a Lifetime!!!! *Update With Pics*

Of course with the MP44 they would only have to smash the butt stock against a tree trunk or similar and the recoil spring would fly out, then remove the bolt as well if they felt like it.

I do recall a well known wartime picture of two small children playing alongside the scattered remains of German field equipment, SS helmets with the cloth covers and several smashed MP44s. The butts broken in such a manner.

Removing a K98 bolt takes much less effort!!

Wow what find, had me droolin on the keyboard while reading through the tread.
Sorry but I probably would have peed myself after finding that, and then done the Barbarian trophy over the head victory Howl.

What pic that would make. :photo: :haha:

Awesome job on the resto, to bad they all can't be cleaned to really good condition but it is what it is(Cool just like it is).

Thank you sharing and awesome job.

~~Happy Hunting~~

I wish I could go back in time and see how it got there, I cant imagine being there after the war ended and just seeing piles of weapons and material laying everywhere.... insane

I know this is an older topic, but I have to say that this find is AWESOME! Truly the find of a lifetime. I am a gun/history enthusiast myself and this is probably the most exciting find I've seen posted on this website.

I would love to detect in Germany or elsewhere in Europe for WWII stuff, just to hold it in my hands and appreciate it. I've spent about 4 weeks in Germany on various trips, it's a country of stunning beauty and constant intrigue.

No wonder - you're in California, you want to find only gold and american eagle wear and other crap. Obviously you don't appreciate the history behind such an artifact.

would love to come give you guys a hand sometime!!!! great finds HH

Well actually Europe as a lot more relaxed laws about fully automatic weapons than the United States does. You can own one but you have to have a special permit just like in the U.S. the large difference is that you can own a gun like the one featured in this article as long as it is disabled and the German government doesnt care. In the U.S they would lose their minds if you owned this without going thru the proper channels.

My other passion is collecting live machineguns. Heres a video a friend shot a couple of years ago at his gun club in Hanson, MA. My friend called and said "grab a couple of WW2 guns and we'll have a WW2 shoot". I think you'll recognize the MP44....MG 34 beltfed and the MP 40 submachinegun. My buddies Thompson had an issue and was running fast...they don't usually run that quick!

The 8mm kurz ammo for the MP44 was made in '44 and it sure was smoky!
