We're working on the email system today, so there may be delays in receiving your emails.

There's a lot of servers blocking us, and it appears the reason is because our Mail Daemon is set on "retry" All the defunct old emails keep bombarding the mail servers, and so the mail servers are blocking them. So we need to find out how to turn off this "retry" system, and setup a new email for the forum. Wish us luck!

All the bounced emails are coming to my inbox, so we have a clearer picture of what's going on.

Here's the most recent error from Yahoo:

SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
host e.mx.mail.yahoo.com [67.195.168.230]: 421 4.7.1 [TS03] All messages from 66.197.170.69 will be permanently deferred; Retrying will NOT succeed. See http://postmaster.yahoo.com/421-ts03.html:
retry timeout exceeded

Im totaly lost now lol,
do we get personel emails from your selfs or do you mean posts and threads on here.
Sorry to be a pain.

After all the research we did today, it doesn't look like we're going to get anywhere with Yahoo/SBC

They want their email members to only use the email services for personal use, such as emailing relatives and friends.

They will block any type of email that is an auto response. They say that if we want to get on their good side we have to stop ALL emails from our site for 2 weeks, and then not send more than 10 emails to their servers over a period of 2 days forever.

So, if you have a Yahoo/SBC email, you will never get an email from the forum.

Here's an interesting page to read:

email problem with yahoo

The problem with Yahoo can NOT be fixed. :(

Thanks for trying Vlad & Carol! That link was very "eye opening"! I have done what that one person siggested and "gave the finger to Yahoo" as far as my e-mail use on this and other Forums!

Going forward perhaps something should be added to New Member sign-ups about the e-mail issue and if they want to receive e-mails from this Forum they will have to use something other than AT&T/SBC/YAHOO.

This is quite interesting because I use my yahoo account for everything. Forums, business, games, etc. Not just 'family and friends'. But I have been quickly losing interest in yahoo the past couple years.

Strangely, I still get forum mail from other websites without issue. Another interesting link for those technical peeps...

I am also sure the admins saw this link and the link within this page?

I still would recommend gmail for everyone.

Don't know how big those other web sites are but for the number of members we have, limiting our emails to yahoo servers to 10 emails over a period of 2 days forever, is not practical.

To me, alot of the problem is the massive amount of "defunct" yahoo email addresses we have.

Forum members come and go. Their email addresses change, and they don't bother coming back and updating their email address.

I went through a lot of the bounced emails last night, and the majority of them were the birthday emails. So, that tells me the email addresses are no good.

Yes, and I am sure there is probably a lot of awaiting confirmation emails too that bounced back. vBulletin is a great forum software, but it has it's moments. It'd be nice if they had an automatic filtering system built in that after a bounce back it suspends the account for an updated email address verification. I've recommended this time and time again to vBulletin with no luck.

We have email confirmations turned off. And no one gets a Welcome email.

I also turned off the Birthday emails.

Here's a list of some of the mail servers refusing auto-responses for PM's and Subscriptions:

yahoo.com
sbcglobal.net
yahoo.com.ar
yahoo.co.uk
att.net
peoplepc.com
earthlink.net

In fact, I can pretty much tell you who's not getting their emails, because they're in my bounce box.

So, I'm going to personally email these members and beg them to change their email address, or turn off their notifications.

Thanks Carol,
I have received your e-mail.I will turn off my forum notifications function
because I have already 3 yahoo accounts and at this time I have not
in mind to open another account yet.
Thanks again for your efforts,
Miguel

Thanks guys! It also appears that if you subscribed to a particular thread they are bouncing too, regardless of whether you have Email Subscribed Threads enabled or not. I've been unsubscribing alot of threads for members.

If we can just get the bounces to stop for a couple weeks, maybe they'll take us off the blacklists.
