Testing E-mail Notificatioon

We don't have any email servers or addresses blocked. We want members to get their emails.

Not suggesting you had any servers blocked. The above method I posted for an admin to check is for email errors. If SBC/Yahoo is rejecting notifications it should be sending you a mailer daemon which will show up in an error log found here:

Admin Control Panel -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Email Diagnostics

Here's what that section says:

The goal of this test is to determine whether any vBulletin or PHP settings must be changed to allow the sending of email through vBulletin. To begin, simply enter an email address that you have the ability to access and click Send Email.

So, what should I do? Insert someone's email address and see if they get it?

I would see if one of your moderators/admins has an email @ the domain in question, be it yahoo.com or sbcglobal.net if the email goes through and doesn't send back an error then it's definitely not server side.

Email errors would be stated as "The mailing function returned an error while trying to send the mail." or something similar in nature.

Okay, I did both of yours SeabeeRon, here's what I got:

No errors were returned while attempting to send the email. Check [email protected] shortly to confirm you've received the email. If you don't receive the email, try sending the test to a different address. If that fails, check your mail server's configuration.

So, this means it not on our end?

This means that the emails were sent out properly from the server side, yes. This then could be a result of address or ip cloaking as mentioned above. However , if I remember correctly, I don't recall seeing anything that looked abnormal when I was receiving notifications at my yahoo/sbcglobal accounts to indicate cloaking.

Strangely enough, at the result of the last inquiry I made in another post, a month after having switched my email address here on the forum, I received the older notifications. Which leads me to believe it's NOT spam filtering. Could be a cookie issue, could be a mailqueue issue.

Does everyone who has a problem receiving notifications "stay logged in"? Just curious...

I do "stay logged in", wonder if that is a connection?!? It is sorta of mute point for me now as I have a gmail account for the Forums, but I would like to get to the bottom of it for others members who don't or can't for some reason.

Well, apparently vB software has had glitches in the past where the 'mail queue' won't send email notifications if a user is 'logged in' regardless of whether they are on their local machine or not. It could be a cookie/cache issue server side. But I too have setup a gmail account for the forum, and have since included my other forums for this account as well.

I am sure it will resolve itself eventually... Just wondering how many others are possibly affected and don't realize it.

I never log off the forum and have never had any problems with receiving mail notifications. During my time here I've had three ISP providers, JPS.net, Time Warner RoadRunner and Verizon. No problems from any of them.

I use POP mail accounts with all three, and have their provided SPAM filters set to minimum filtering, preferring to use my mail program to do the filtering.

I don't receive any e-mail notifications since months ago .
Problem seems to be yahoo. But I have no other account
than yahoo

I wonder if maybe the forum should announce this on going issue officially to make members aware that they may have replies to their threads and may possibly not be receiving the emails if they use said domains.

Rammj?ger, set up a gmail (gmail.com) account. It's free and takes only a minute. Works great for the threads. Again, I only have problems with this forum and yahoo, but I made all my forums go to my gmail account now so they're all in one place and I don't lose track of them.

EDIT: I'd also like to make admins/moderators aware that if email notifications aren't being received by yahoo/sbcglobal then those NEW user confirmation emails most likely aren't being received as well. Just something to think about.

New member w/sbcglobal e-mail

Want to see if my sbcglobal e-mial will work for e-mail notifications. Can someone please add a reply to this post??

Thank you @outwardjourney for the tip.
I may consider in fact to
open another account .
