Spoons..bust em out...

Cupid and Venus

according to legend, that would be Cupid and his mother Venus. common to se them pictured together, and sometimes Cupid would be riding a dolphin and so would Venus. he does not hold a bow and arrow in all the paintings from the past, sometimes a spear. the bow and arrow was just used on one quest according to myths. I think Cupid was a conspiracy with ancient card makers to sell us !!!! at Valentines!

Heres my spoons - all sterling silver pulled from an old farm. Check out the Atlantic City spoon - very cool.

Does anybody know about how much "actual" silver there would be in a silver plated spoon that weighs approx. 32 grs.? I don't imagine that all the weight would be silver? I know it would be impossible to say exactly but would it maybe be half? Just curious and thanks for any input. HH

Fishnut,

Not an expert on spoons per say, as far as metal value, your spoon would be worth more if it was not silver plated, because then it could be sold as pure copper. As far as the weight of the silver content, not even close to half, maybe a half of 1%... You got her out in good condition and not all bent up, good job on that.. Maybe your next spoon will be a winner!

Gorham Zodiac Spoon -- heavy, I believe it was close to 40 grams!

Very cool and a Lunker @ 40g!

I found this back in the 80s

I knew that was coming! Glad we got it over with! LOL...

I found a spoon handle earlier this year. Does that count?

It sure does count.. The indian is way cool. You need to go back when the ground is wet and turn the sens way up. Should make for an easy target, if it is there.. GL on that!! 14g..Hmmm.... Dang! There is another 15g or so, still on the loose!!

This thread is turning out awesome! Thanks for posting, and all the comments.. BTW So far my spoon has been my best dig.. Not sure if I mentioned that or not..

So the run down...

A naked women, a scorpion, and an indian, lol, CRAZY!

I am wondering what the picture on my spoon is depicting, is it random "art" or is it based off, another work? Michelangelo maybe? Someone else said, Lilith? IDK..

Looking forward to more!!

love that Atlantic city spoon. Hand engraved by someone.

I 2nd Solcalpete.. Cool lighthouse and sail boat! I wonder in the case of that spoon, if the rest of that spoon was turned into a spoon ring by the same person that made the other part.. Just a thought..

Good luck all!!

heres mine

I have found a few silver plated and one British sterling monagramed spoon.
My silver spoon is dated 1830 on the front.the pic of the ornate spoon is plated ,a souvenier spoon.
The 1830 spoon was found within a few feet ware I found my 1850"s militia belt plate maybe there related?
The belt plate is the center piece of my 1800"s display case with the spoon right beside it.

Roman 1st to 4th century.

One which I found in 2006.

"An unfinished cast copper alloy spoon of probable Roman date. The spoon measures 87.4mm by 26.4mm by 6.6mm and weighs 25.31g. The short handle, which is a similar length to the bowl, has an unbroken rounded end, suggesting that the spoon was miscast and hence never finished. There are various casting sprues around the edges of the spoon as a result. The spoon has a pear-shaped bowl, squared shoulders and a narrowed handle with a circular cross-section. The handle continues to be defined in relief along part of the back of the bowl."
