Sick of garret pro pointer.

I love my Pro Pointer. No issues at all here. However, I'm quite interested in the new White's one soon to be announced. Extremely please with the V3i. Seems like a company very much like Tesoro but technology that fits my style.

I've had a vibraprobe 580 for four years now and not one complaint , still works like the day i brought it home .

I realize there have been complaints on pro-pointers, many of them legit, some not legit. But mine first one is on its 2nd year, thousands of holes and on/off cycles, many batteries, a few drops, never been washed, used to dig a bit in light soil, never been altered in any way. It still works fantastic and I wouldn't go out with out it!
I use a rechargeable 9v in it, and run it till it starts acting funny, but it runs a long time. Make sure the battery is tight in it and it runs great. Sometimes it will beep if set down usually due to some other metal object near it like my digger or buried junk.

Like you I have 3 and had no problems with any of them. I been using the same one for 3-4yrs and its working good. My wife uses the others. I get a few falses occasionally from pressing too hard in the dirt or just outta the blue. I just clean off the dirt and turn it off and on and it works great again, it takes 2 seconds...big deal. Like anything..you work something real hard, its bound to get a temper

I used my new PP for the second time yesterday and after about 4 holes it began going crazy. Hi-low tones, constant chirping, etc. Tried shutting it off, pulling the battery, etc. After about 1/2 hour of tinkering it finally seemed to be back to normal (whatever that is)

Called Garrett and they gave the standard answer...put a new battery in it. Sigh.....

Heh...

Used it again today for 3 hours. About an hour in it began singing the song of its people again so I changed the battery. All good again for now. I'll just keep a few new batteries in my backpack.

My Pro Pointer has only been used on several outings, no problems so far. I read some people use the Pro Pointer as a digging tool, probably not a good idea. Also I don't want a pinpointer that looks like a gun, some police panic & shoot. I have the Cen-Tech, used a few years & it's still on the 1st battery, but it will be heard by everyone within a few hundred feet. So guess they all have pros & cons. Best wishes, George (MN)

my

garrett pp was going nut's today also, I would run the pistol probe but goes nuts with the Etrac waiting on a flawless pointer to come out Earl

I am surprised at how few use the Vibra Probe. I had my 1st one for 6 years before it failed, I have a new one and love it. It is pulse so no mineralization problems, it's water proof so I can put it right in water, no buttons or switches to go bad, it is vibration only which I like because the noise just attracts attention and it is tough as nails.
I've never owned a Garrett Pro Pointer but I had a White's Bullseye II and the switch went after 3 months.
Can't go wrong with the Vibra Probe in my opinion.

I have a pro-find 25, new to this and was wondering do you guys turn off your pin pointers between every target? Or is better to leave it on?

I have a Garrett ProPointer. I shut it off between holes because I have a Buzz Willson holster for my Lesche and ProPointer. Would ring because picks up the Leache.

Have had the ProPointer for a year and a quarter. Rode hard and put up wet:D
Got kinda quiet once when I got the speaker hole filled with mud.
Otherwise, rock solid. Wouldn't leave home without it!!

i too use a cen-tech but have only done the sensitivity mod.i have found that a fresh battery tends to straighten out the constant beeping.

is it possible that you could post a picture of your modded cen-tech Jo Ann? i'd like to see how yours now looks so i can copy cat it:cool:. thanks

sorry it took so long, I put the pictures of the modified cen-tech in my albums

propointer

Ihave 2 garrett propointers, neither one works, i read on another forum thatthe duracell battery casing makes a difference and that other 9volt batteries are a better fit.The issue seems to be the amount of pressure of the batterie to the clips inside, that tiny peice of rubber in the cap seems to be the culprit. One fellow used a folded business card to make up the difference while another claims to have used a quarter and a dime in the cap to apply the proper amount of pressure. Both of my pinponters lasted a year. Never again HH JIM

Over hype with the Whites PPr. Absolutely nobody will beat Garretts. If the Chinese hasn't given us a solid pinpointer/duplicate of the ProPointer...it ain't happening soon. Whites new pinpointer coming out? Wait before you buy. Minelab failed on theirs in direct comparison to the Propointer. Garretts rules in pinpointers.

I can't believe it took until the third page before voices of reason came along. I see people constantly complaining about the propointer and having to smear goop all over it so it doesn't get ruined when a drop of water gets in it. Buy the vibraprobe, it's waterproof straight from the factory and doesn't make that annoying sound. I've had one in my arsenal for the past 10+ years.
