I revise my vote from yes to no. This tin-foil-hat conspiracy theory nonsense is just out of control. People never cease to amaze me.

Yup, and every retailer I've known (and I've been one myself) had an advertising budget to use as they see fit. Virtually every quality detector that is available in the USA is advertised on this forum by the sponsors and talked about by the members. I see that as a service to someone wise enough to use it.

I explained it to you...

Your common sense is neither wanted nor appreciated. We all know that Vlad and Carol are paying you big bucks in CASH to keep us down while they rake in all the extra cash from sponsors by suppressing comments about the competition. How's that ten speed boat treating you Carol what with all that cash you're raking in from the forums!

Good one Banemorth! You mean my 10 speed bike?

It's doing real good. Vlad just fixed my flat tire yesterday, so I'm good to go!

This thread is getting out of proportion.

If you had access to my user CP you would see who gave me the rep points and they were not mods...

When I or anyone else puts up a good or helpful post and people like it they say so with a positive rep... its as simple as that..

actually on my user CP it says I have 78 reps but 63 are posted...

Where do you come up with this stuff?

None of us get anything... we do it because we love this forum... we are here to help members and keep this forum drama free to the best of our ability...

Note the "Or at least some of you do." Same difference Craig, one aspect of your job as a member of the forum staff is to protect the forum's clients. That's fine, though it would be better if were disclosed.

Bottom line - this is a for profit forum. It doesn't matter whether it's making a profit or not. Nor does it matter that, that amount is pocket change in the world of business. What matters is that there is a financial outcome to be considered. Folks coming here for straight, unbiased advice should be made aware of that fact. What's the problem with disclosure? What's the problem with letting the uninformed know that those with the highest rep numbers have an interest in the outcome?

To be quite honest I think any one who is a good buyer will look at what other people are using and their luck VS what a dealer tries to spin towards them.

Dealers are here to make money. I don't think any dealer here tries to "con" someone into buying something, they are only offering recommendations. It's the buyers job to do his/her homework and make a smart purchase decision.

Why does everyone assume these guys are making a fortune from this website? A few 5$ donations here and there and maybe 3 or 4 sponsor banners on the top right. Thats not a ton of cash. I've seen forums where there are ads at the top, bottom, and on every thread. It's not like the owners here are filling up the forum with ads to make bank off us. Don't you think a few donations and such are due to keep a site like this up for us where we can all come in from the day of hunting and share info? C'mon people...enough bashing...

AMEN!

Having a domain name, hosting, and spending time moderating posts is not FREE to the Admin/Owners/Mods.

This site is not cluttered with ads like some forums.

Just so we are clear, none of the mods or admins here get paid nor do they have a reason to promote any dealer or brand other then the one they use and like or the dealer they are happy with.

If some of you think that forums should be free of sponsors and ads, you should team up and start one ;)

They don't even make 10 speeds anymore, the new ones are all 15 speeds. You must have forked over the big bucks for an old classic. Stop spending our money on those expensive toys or I'm gonna move to a better MD forum...........................wait........there is not a better MD forum. uhhhhhhhh HAPPY CYCLING.:lol::lol:

You wanna see ads?? Go to DodgeForum.com - The gal that started it sold out to some internet giant company because it was so popular. They just piled on more ads so that it sometimes takes awhile for the site to load......not to mention that it's a prime target for spammers.....I check it once a day, but I spend most of my computer time here on FMDF......the people are nicer, the mods/admins more effective and the sponsors help people out, e.g. NED with the stolen AT Pro.

That's be a "no" from me. I don't want people to be judged by some silly number next to their name. I'd hate for someone to come to the forum and think one member better than another or their opinion more or less valid based on this system. Make good posts, stay on topic, be nice - and people will recognize and respect you for it. I judge by the person and by the post, and would expect to be treated the same way. This system doesn't really add that much (except in the classifieds as stated), but it has the potential to create a negative atmosphere in my opinion. And as stated before me, the Friendly was the best forum on the web before this system, and if it ain't broke...
This is exactly how I feel .

Also some forums have a ton of ads and will only reduce them if you become a paid member.

I checked out the site dusty, ad city!

Well said! Not trying to sound like I'm kissing up here, but I for one appreciate this forum and the people who keep it running. Some people should feel pretty grateful right now that the owners and moderators here put up with people acting like ungrateful clowns.

Another thing...while the poll is a good idea, I think the admins/owners/mods should have final say.

You can't make everyone agree on the same thing. That's why there is Republican and Democrat, Chevy and Ford, Coke and Pepsi. Everybody does not like the same thing.

I've seen other forums with rep points and it seems like a ok system.

I don't think it should be used as a tool, just to show that the person has a good reputation for being nice, helpful, etc.
