ENDED Pull-Tab Contest Win a Silver Coin

Think it's more of an advertising thing, than an actual fundraiser. It keeps Ronald McDonald house on people's minds, who will donate cash when asked, or donate there change as they do the drive-thru. Then, there's the kid's... If hear the name all day, they are going to want to go to McDonald's once in a while.

Really not a bad thing, get's kids involved in doing something for others. Working together for a common goal.

no, i did, but it take 53 normal pulltabs to equal a soda can (Half an ounce) 32 cans to a pound equals 1696 pulltabs at 50 cents per pound...... Doesn't benefit them, didn't say it didn't make money. The wise thing would be to just collect the cans.

A couple of things, 1 I don't trust snopes any further than i can throw them and 2 Gold and diamonds also add up faster then pulltabs but who cares this is for a great cause so whats it matter.

Now for the real story.

The little insignificant tab you pull to open your can of pop can make a significant impact! Simply remove the tab, collect them and then give them to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Why we collect pop tabs and not the entire can...

Pop tabs are high quality, pure aluminum and are more valuable than the can, which is a combination of aluminum and other alloys. Tabs are also easier to store and less messy than saving the whole can. We also recognize that other organizations use aluminum recycling as a way to raise funds. All we want is the tab, so you can continue donating to more than one organization through your recycling efforts

Why collect pop tabs?

All the pop tab collections add up to make a heartfelt impact to Ronald McDonald House Charities. Pop tabs are an easy way to recycle and help others and is a task that people of all ages can do. These small pieces are a source of charitable revenue for us. The amount of money received is determined by the weight of the aluminum collected. The dollars raised through this program are used for operations and supplies for the Ronald McDonald House and Family Rooms.

Facts:

1 pound = 1, 267 tabs
1 pound = approximately $.25 - $.30 Note this number is low according to todays market.

Im in this as my little sister at 22 months old fought cancer and won. Now a month ago two weeks before she turned 22 years old we got word her cancer has come back as colin cancer. The surgery was good and shes back to normal but starts chemo next week. The Ronald McDonald house we stayed at in Boston MA. for a long time. We always contribute anything we can for them for helping my family in the hard times we have had.

Wow.....how did I miss this?

I finish midnights that morning....only 10 minutes from home.

Sunday's local paper showed a guy scooping something in the middle of the creek that empties on the beach!! Park Rangers got on to me last time I was there....in the middle of that creek!

Actually the snopes article was correct but it was talking about pull tabs equaling time on dialysis and there is no such program. But it did acknowledge that McDonalds collects them and that the proceeds do benefit the Ronald McDonald houses.

Here's a detailed example of how much that program benefited the Orange County Ronald McDonald House:

Pop Tab Collection Program...Pull for the House

An easy way to help the Orange County Ronald McDonald House is to collect pop tabs for recycling. It’s a great fundraising project for scout troops, civic groups, schools, and churches. Since our collection drive started in 1998, we have raised over $77,000 from recycling pop tabs. The money earned (100 percent of it) goes to offset the costs of running the Orange County Ronald McDonald House...

Why collect Pop Tabs?

All the collections add up to make a heartfelt impact in working together to provide a home away from home for families during the medical treatment of their seriously ill children. Pop tabs are an easy way to recycle and help others and it is a task that people of all ages can do. These small pieces are a source of charitable revenue for the Ronald McDonald House. The amount of money received is determined by the weight of aluminum collected. Saving the tab is a simple and clean way of recycling for the House and it only takes a second. The dollars raised are used for operations and supplies for the Ronald McDonald House. Money received is not credited toward any medical treatment.

Your lil' guy is going to be a rockstar with all these MDers sending in tabs!!! Count me in... I make a pretty decent back up on the harmonica! :p

PS... see you on the 17th at Minelab!?!

It would be cool to get a video of him turning in all those tabs, the reactions the classmates, teachers... Might even squeeze in a plug for the hobby.

The school total last drive was over a million tabs combined!

This is a great idea! Me and my youngster will start saving them as well for you guys. Who knows maybe just your little guy will end up a half a million himself! With all the participants here you may need to make a heck of a haul to school!

Also when you do find out when the deadline is for turning them in please make a post as a reminder. I will remember to toss em in pail but am sure to forget the date needed by.
