Pocketspill.com is now Detecting.us

yeah, but you need a cell phone, or an apple !!!!. I don't pay the man! I droped verizon like a bad habit months ago, and saving $98.00 per month. The hell with them.

Smoke signals works best for me.

Looking to see if a hand held GPS might work with this.

This looks like a great resource but I am running into file size limitations which shows up as an error loading the image on my iphone. Do you happen to know what is the largest file you can upload to the server that will work with mobile devices?

Thanks for the great information.

Those are some great tools! I guess I now have a major excuse to upgrade my phone!

I have talked to Maprika about my post and updated it as a result with a few new things I've learned. Also have another full day of use under my belt.

Hi pocketspill,

I had a recent email exchange with one of the Maprika support team members. He informed me that they currently have a file size limit of 32 MB. I was over that limit on one of my maps and it resulted in a loading error on my iphone. I am letting everyone here know so that you don't go nuts like I did with a huge file and then realize that all your work is for nothing.

Thanks Dan... great tip!

I think the way to approach this is to size the map to a "useful, reasonable" size where you still get useful detail but not so big that the file is ginormous.

I've found that a county-sized, black-and-white map on 3000x3000 pixels at JPG quality 80 does nicely. This results in a file size of around 3-4MB

Does anyone know of a program/tool like Maprika that works on a desktop computer?

maprika desktop is really only useful for building the maps. Then you go to the field to use the map on maprika mobile with GPS. is that what you meant?
