One year in the hobby - 152 silvers and a lot of fun

Great gobs of silver.............
Haven't found one silver coin all year. Plenty of trash and clad, the guys hunted this small city to death over the years.......

David is the living embodiment of that saying "you get out of it what you put into it." I've been along for the ride with him a few times with my rinky-dink detector and haven't found a single silver, even in the same spots where he's pulling these crazy piles. He's got the equipment, the technique, and the friggin eye of the tiger. Amazing collection, dude!

Thanks, man.

Everyone, this is the guy who got me into the hobby. My first taste was piling his detector and us into his canoe in the dark and rowing to a spot where some old houses used to stand. We managed to dig up a rusty nail and a whatsit by flashlight before rowing back. Needless to say, at that point I wasn't sold on the hobby yet .

Great job and the E-trac is indeed a Silver beast. Post a pic of your jewelry finds if you get the chance, would love to see those as well. Gold will hit hard at around 12-29 especially a thick man's band. Continued success!

Thanks for the nice comment and the advice. I'll snap a few pics of some of the cooler items in the near future and post them on the Coinshooters board. The vintage pieces I would date to the 40's to 60's and place them by hallmark or location and depth.

Very impressive year indeed! Its pretty amazing that you found a virgin site that produced so many old silvers. Stories like this keep me busy doing research in hopes of finding a similar site.

Thanks, Ken. And look at Al, who had lightning strike twice this year. Keeps me hoping that it can happen again for me.

Thanks a lot also for the hospitality and leads when I visit NC!

Dave

Great job with all the finds.....can't believe you did so well for your first year. I'm in my second year and tripled my finds from the first year......can we expect you to get 450 silvers next year? Great job once again those are some great spots you have keep it up

Thanks. If you said it before, I missed it...to what do you attribute your increased finds? Did you upgrade, find better sites, put more time in, or what? I will probably set a goal of 75 silver next year, that will push me but is also realistic. Good luck to you getting to your 200! I'm hoping the ground doesn't freeze up on you too early.

Wow Dave, that is aboslutely sick...In a good way:)...I need to see how you research so I can find a honey hole in the woods. We have been in the hobby around the same time and I have found a whopping three silvers and 4 IH's. Im seriously thinking of unloading my AT Pro and Ace350 and gettin the Etrac...

Oh by the way, I wanna see a pic of all 408 wheats too...

Thanks, Sean, I appreciate it, and thank you for hosting the get-together I was able to make. It was nice to meet all you Jersey and PA guys.

that looks like a ton of trash, but in reality i think you are doing very well trash to silver ratio wise. i have dug 8 silvers this year and i think i have more trash than you (3rd 5 gallon pail.) i keep the pail in my truck bed and when i get too full of pockets i dump it in there. pail gets full i put it in the dumpster. you must be much better at id'ing targets than I and possibly be at much better sites.

really you are the md'er i strive to be. WTG!

Thanks for the nice words.

I think you are right about a low trash:silver ratio. I'd attribute it to the Etrac's ability to be pretty definitive about what is a coin or coin-like target and what is not, and my own style which is for the most part not a dig it all mentality. Since my time is limited, and I am hunting sites that date for the most part from around the 40's, give or take, I don't worry overly much about missing the stray rosie or merc that has an iffy signal.

That said, I do expand my 'dig filter' when I know I am in an older area or when I am at a site that I know I have the luxury of hitting over and over again. I think a lot of guys have that go-to park that is close to home and still has keepers trickling out.

Everyone else who I didn't respond to directly...thanks so much for your nice comments and encouragement. I really appreciate it. Happy hunting to you all :).

i was gone for the weekend when you posted this...how did i miss it!??
great finds! thats a fantastic pile of silvers for your first year. keep up the pace next year dude! a tip of the hat to ya!

Awesome job on your first year in the hobby! You dug an incredible amount of silver. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

That is A very impressive year's worth of finds!!! Congratulations David, your research and your efforts paid off very well. Keep up the research and find another honey hole. Looking forward to your posts.

Keith

Wow all that silver

Dang you sure know where to look and how to do it. Been a while since I had some finds like those. Just getting back into it.

White's M6 my 4th detector.

People love to ask what I found and several times out I met people interested in detecting some do it but aren't looking with their detector when I am.
