I have a feed page on the computer that is stories, adds, and just general news. Lately I have been seeing news of the Chinese have developed a coin size nuclear battery. Yep you heard right nuclear. Said it would stay charged for fifty years without needing to charge. WOW!. think of it, you could go detecting and not stop till you keeled over. The article said they are still in the final stages of development. With all the warnings about Lithium-ion batteries either exploding or catching fire the last thing I would want is to be ground zero to that thing going BOOM!:jawdrop::chemist:

Actually, the Chinese nuclear batteries in question can only deliver a few microwatts of power. Could be useful in applications like smoke detectors, but it doesn't have the power to power a metal detector.

The Voyager probe did carry nuclear batteries, but they are now largely depleted and can only supply enough energy to power a few of the instruments it carried into deep space.
