New Minelab Pro-Find...

I'd like to see something along the lines of a PI pinpointer. Though it's usually just a matter of scooping again, something waterproof and not effected by salt would be different. Probably wouldn't sell just for that reason (one more scoop usually finds it). I don't understand a discriminating pinpointer. I usually disc the target w/ my detector before I start digging. For now I'm happy w/ my ProPointer. Don't hit the dirt enough to justify anything more.

minelab pro pointer

It looks like a copy of the garrett, but with a few more features,i have a garrett pro pointer, and a detector pro -pistol probe pi pointer,i do like the pi technology in it,adjustable sense, deeper than the garretts two inches, the only thing is the minelab's price should be around the garrett, and what's up with the square handle,i like garrett's round handle, more hand friendly,i hardly ever use the pistol probe due to the handle is not hand handling friendly,i guess i could get used to a square version, the test and durability, remain's in ?,you can buy garrett's pro pointer new for 127.50 ,169.00 for the minelab,we will have to see if it's worth the extra 41.50 and weather the warrenty beat's garrett's,no ? about it ,i due like the 2-4 inch adjustment, but the pistol probe is pi technology, set at the same price as the minelab,so minelab again is over pricing :imo:,if it was pi technology, built to last, best warrenty, better switch than garretts,no falsing issues ,with Pi technology i could see the price , set that high,i will be happy with the garrett & pistol probe for now, happy hunting Earl

As I said in post #30 of this thread, the Garrett MSRP is $149.95. So in real world retail pricing, the Pro Find should only be about $20 more than a ProPointer.

Compare MineLab's build quality to Garrett's. If their pinpointer is representitive of their other stuff, it could easily justify an extra $20, IMO.

under stood

Ok than if it's only 20.00 buck's more, with a few extra features ,it might be worth it,i believe the Garrett is 127.45 ,if the minelab is 147.45 and better,i might look at one, just because of the adjustable depth and the extra 2 inches claimed, the 2 inches on the garrett is the weak point ,along with the switch that wares out, thank's for the info,Earl

Here is my thought on this:

If the Pro-Find does break after the warrenty is up, will Minelab charge you to fix it? If the answer is yes, then no thanks.

I have never heard of someone reporting that Garrett has charged them to fix a broken Propointer, even if the warrenty was way over. Correct me if I am wrong on that.

and what's up with the square handle,i like garrett's round handle

i didn't notice any square handle :?: i'm sure i'll get one since i'm in the market for a backup pinpointer anyway, i just hope it still fits in that sheath that Buzz made me

Garretts ought to be engineering an enhanced Pro Pointer right now which will hit at a minimum of 3". They have a good lock on this market, and it just can not be difficult to improve depth, even if it's with something that mimics the sliding nickel trick, but built. Garrett's Pro Pointer switch is a weak link. I've been inside one of those switches, and it's not to American standard in my opinion. On the plus side though, Garretts does give a lot of levity on warranty issues, most times doing repairs for zero cost. The only cost threat I received from them on my switch repair was a possible $25. I saw that as highly commendable since I admitted to taking the guts out myself one time, and my switch didn't like my lack of experience in re-assembly. DO NOT take these apart. It is do-able, but I'll guarantee you that you'll break that switch the first time.

Back to the Minelab PP. If they make one that gives the extra inch(s) and is also proximinity, then I've found a home for my second Garretts...my brother. I'd have to have the Minelab and my best Pro Pointer as a backup. It still shocks me that nobody in the metal detecting business hasn't gone head to head with Garretts Pro Pointer business, including the Chinese. jm2c Martin

Well, if it better than the Propointer, then hopefully Garrett will take action to make the propointer better.

dog pound

i am going by the video, look at the end of the handle, appears to be squarish,i could be wrong,Andrew what month are they going to be availabe for sale? i will probally purchase one just because of the adjustable 2-4 depth range,4 inches is nice, alot nicer than 2,great new's from Minelab.

Hopefully some Propointer owners with money will purchase this and do some reviews...

Garrett and Minelab should have gotten rid of the buttons (which eventually fail anyway, and make the unit non-waterproof) on their pinpointers. A button-less design, like the Vibraprobe, with auto turn-on (when tilted up) and auto turn-off (when tilted up again, and when not in use after 1 min.) would have been better.

Actually, I think Minelab should have designed an improved version of the Sunray inline probe. I think the inline probes are superior to handheld probes. Inline probes don't require extra batteries, you can never lose them, they give you tone ID (just like your machine), and they discriminate the same targets your main coil does. I would like to have seen Minelab create an inline probe without a switch box. Simply removing the probe from its holding apparatus will engage it, and replacing it back will turn it off. I thought Minelab had better foresight in cutting edge technology. No need to make a copy of the Garrett pro pointer. :?:

In line probes are detector specific. I can have one portable Minelab probe or 1 Garrett in line probe, 1 minelab probe and 1 Whies probe. I'll stay portable.

portable

i like portable to,been thier done that with the sun-ray probe's,i could see use for one on the e-trac ,but i don't want to go back to that set up,once i dig,i dig till i find the target,me with a sampson serrated edge,i would be missing finger's if i was looking at the etrac screen for number's digging,no thank's,looking forward to the minelab pointer posted result's,as i have been running the garrett and pistol probe for some time now,:my2cents::imo:,Earl

I read all the posts but didn't see anyone mention the proportional audio.. If I'm not mistaken doesn't that mean it sounds different on different metals? Similar to the Sunray? If that's the case that could mean the difference in something new... If you have ever used a Sunray and get into a plug and there is multiple targets usually all trash except for the one target you are after, then this could be very good.... Can't wait to see one in my hand... I love my Garrett ProPointer and my Sunray, and use them both.. Can't have too many pieces of equipment??? Right? Just wished convincing the wife of that, wasn't so hard...
I plan to get one as soon as they come out and will do a video on it... Waiting......

i believe the proportional audio and vibration would be just like it is on the propointer (the stronger the tone and vibration the closer to the target you get)

the main improvements that i see would be the ability to adjust the sensitivity and also having 2 modes, audio & vibrate or just vibrate

I kind of figured that but was hoping it was the other... :(
Although the sensitivity would be a plus if it really gets better depth... I hope we are all amazed...

minelab dealer

Andrew, keep us posted,i want one,the garrett pro pointer drives me nut's when you cut the plug out and have to break up the clump, because the garrett won't cut the mustard ,it will be nice to have a pointer that penetrates 4 inches, beside's the un-friendly, hand handling, pistol probe, just let us know when they come in,i think you might need a 26ft pup load  Big Earl,Your the best :hat3::waytogo:

??? Take another look at the video (post 1) and picture (post 9)

Great news there some competition for the GPP...which should drive the price
down on the overpriced GPP.
See a post the otherday that the GPP sounds off when used with some detectors?????
