New Minelab Pro-Find...

Hey Ray, might just hold off a little. When these hit the streets it might just lower the pro pointer prices.

Every pro pointer I've owned (3 total) has flaked out and acted up on me. When it works it's amazing - but it only works properly 50% of the time. I'm looking forward to this if it's as good as the garrett but MORE reliable. The Garrett sometimes will only make noise but no vibration. Most of the time the button doesn't work properly and it stays on or beeps randomly in mid air. I'm SICK of the pro pointer.

I may actually buy one of these minelab pointers...

Amen Brother

I just purchased my 2nd sun ray dx-1 for my second Dfx. well worth the price for a water proof pinpointer plus its attached and you will never loose it. Also you can look at your screen and see the vdi numbers plus hear the sound through your headphones.

If this things has proximity mode, and the sensitivity can be adjusted so at least 2-4"...it's worth the MSRP of $169. Nobody has yet to say anything about them touting proximity operation though. Proximity is going to be the bee's knees here.

As far as garretts failing, my two have been great. martin

I own the Garrett PPer as well but the switch will fail whether you take it easy or not its just a matter of time... if minelab has a better switch it would be worth it to me... I don't dirt hunt much and my switch is already bad...

Craig's right, the switch does go bad, that's what happened to mine. When you cycle it on and off 12,000 times and you're hard on your equipment:lol:...I sent it off for repair and had a new one in my hands in about 10 days. What happens when the Minelab unit breaks, do you send it off to Australia or Ireland and wait a month or 2 to get it back, 'cause that won't fly if you're hardcore and detect 3-4 times a week, having to wait on a pinpointer...I'll stick with the Garrett for now and take better care of it this time, $169 is a little much, I think.

i like what i see, being able to adjust the sensitivity would be nice insted of having to "detune" my propointer. i'll give it a little time when the price wars start and prices hopefully drop some.

ps.......if any sponser wants an honest review of these i'll gladly put it thru its paces :D

I heard horror stories about Minelabs turn around time on warranty repairs. Thankfully I haven't had to sent anything back to them.

I will keep my ProPointer for now I have the sunray probe on my etrac. Only time will tell if it is indeed better than the ProPointer.

That stems from the old facility in Las Vegas. Now that they are in Chicago, they are much better. In another thread I even alluded to the idea that they had no repair center in the U.S. proir to the new place and staff.

I have the Sun Ray, but honestly once it wears out I think I'll go to something with a bit more penetration and take the weight off the E-Trac.

Minelab Pro Pointer

Hey I love my Minelab 705 and I also love My Garrett Pro Pointer!!! My pointer isn't 2 months old so (And someone correct me if I am wrong) has 22 months left on its warranty? So unless I lose my Garrett I wont be buying a new Main pointer for that long! I'm sure by then that this Minelab beta version pointer will be debugged and will have shown itself enough to be firmly planted in its pecking order. I don't care what name is on a pointer I now have to have equal to the Garrett or better. I was happy with my Cen Tech until I broke it trying to do a Mod on it. I will buy another one for a back up unless someone here at FMDF has one for sale Dirt Cheap..... :biker::digginahole::biker:
