New Minelab Equinox

I've seen enough to make the decision to purchase one at least for further testing ... ... I've seen the processor speed and I've seen a weight of around 2 1/2 lbs. I've seen the reviews "claim" to match or even surpass the performance of the CTX. I'm sold.

Yep, this is where I am at.

If I buy one, and it's a real nice machine, does some great stuff, but proves (in my own testing) not to be able to do the extreme things I'm hoping (top-notch unmasker in iron, AND at least equally capable of FBS-like depth/ID stability at depth in a coin-hunting application), then I will simply sell it to someone who doesn't demand quite the extreme performance that I do. I don't see losing very much money on it if I buy it, swing it for a few months, and then sell it. I'm willing to risk the $150 or whatever loss I'd incur by selling it used, in this particular case. I think the evidence thus far, flawed and slim though it may be, has been enough to tilt that gamble enough in my favor to risk it...

Unfortunately being a fast machine doesn't automatically mean it's going to be a top performer in iron, there's fast detectors that can't pass a simple nail above coin 3d test, a lot will depend on whether its open gate or a snap shot audio.

Agree, ghound. Quite true -- "fast" doesn't automatically mean "good in iron." But I trust that if Minelab set its sights on competing directly with the Deus (which it appears they did, with this unit), the machine will at least be quite competent. Minelab is better than to set their sights on a unit, and then design/release a lemon...

I would like to hear you elaborate more on "open gate" versus "snap shot audio." I THINK I know what you mean, but as someone who is much more experienced at deep-coin hunting than picking good targets out of thick iron, I am much clearer on what I look for, performance-wise, in a deep-hunting machine vs. an iron-hunting machine. But I want to learn more about hunting in iron. Can you explain/elaborate on this "audio" characteristic you look for, before you are willing to call a machine "good in iron?"

Steve

Agreed Steve. I think Minelab has built the Equinox to compete with machines like the Deus and MAX so I'm sure it probably will.

Although just being a fast machine does not guaranty it will do good in iron, but it does increase the odds immensely.

Another non-English vid with a nail test.

It is all surface testing. Wonder what it would look like 7-8" down.

No matter, looks pretty good. The ID seemed to stay fairly stable in that vid as opposed to some of the other vids of it I have seen. Makes me want to see more vids!

Yep, that's an FBS machine's response to such a target, unfortunately.

As I understand it, stretched out, balled up, doesn't matter. The machines are reading eddy currents generated by each small "loop" or "link" of gold that makes up the larger chain, and FBS units are DEAD to those tiny little links. That Racer responded about how I would have expected my old Gold Bug Pro or F19 to have responded to it -- looks like he could get about 4" air test on the chain.

Anyway, not to worry, Detector (and I know you really aren't; you were just making a point, about the E-Trac). Anyway, I can almost GUARANTEE that the Equinox won't behave like the E-Trac, on that type of target. If Minelab releases a machine with a "prospecting mode," and it can't see that chain at all (like the E-Trac), then that is a colossal failure of immense magnitude on the part of Minelab, to the degree that every one of us should send our new Equinox's back to them, in protest!!

Here is a video I did showing what I hope the Equinox does not do.

Ha ha ha, that racer 2 seems to like gold very similar to my ATP with any of my three coils...

Similar testing with the tiger shark, ATP nailed it, TS, not so much...

If the equinox hits a braided rope chain like that, I might even buy one...

This thread is hilarious. Equinox is hashed out before it is even released. Have patience so the machine can get a fair shake from the jury who have bought them.......:coffeetable:

I must be missing all this "hashing" because all I've seen is people asking questions and presenting hopes and wishes. Pretty much the same thing we see on ever new detector that's come out.

Granted, this one on the Equinox is a bit more in depth, but I contribute that to the anticipation of a great company introducing some possible new technology.

Kind of the whole idea of have a thread on a forum isn't it?

+1
31 pages long before the machine is out of its development stage ...:crazy::theatral::snapoutofit:

I think I have already said this earlier.
Expect this thread to have 50,000 hits even before physical release of detector.
Then after, likely another 50,000 hits.

Come March next year, if this thread is still a going, could be in the 150,000 range, maybe more.

I've seen enough to make the decision to purchase one at least for further testing. Since I can't seem to entice a single *cough tester cough* to do a simple gold test. I've seen the processor speed and I've seen a weight of around 2 1/2 lbs. I've seen the reviews "claim" to match or even surpass the performance of the CTX. I'm sold.

Now, some please take a small gold earring, chain or pendant and test the darn thing. Or do I have to do it myself? I don't want to see no gold rings that any $50 detector can hit, I want to see it hit on a small gold earring, chain or pendent. I'm talking 0.5 gr or less.

Be patient. Its still a prototype being refined , the final product is what you should want to see tested

I'm getting old, no time for patience LOL.

I did finally see a video today with, I guess, a gold rope chain. I never seen the actual chain and I heard him talking about the "connector". Now depending on the size of said connector it sounded pretty good.

I didn't know you were a doctor ?I got a flu shot yesterday and I am not feeling all that great today. They say a flu shot cannot cause you to feel under the weather. Do you think it could have been the 13 inning loss last night to Cleveland or could it be the flu shot ?:?:
