New Minelab Equinox

Has anybody done or seen any testing on gold? I'm not talking a gold ring that any halfway decent detector would hit on, but that small odd shaped stuff? Like chains, earrings and pendants. These are the real test for a good gold machine. Right now I have my E-Trac for the deep coins and my AT Pro for the tot lot gold.

My AT Pro will hit on the smallest bit of gold like a chain link or clasp. I'm hoping that the 800 at 40 kHz will hit well on that small stuff, but then Minelab advertises that the E-Trac runs in the range up to 100 kHz which I call BS. We all know the E-Trac/CTX are poor small gold machines.

I'd love to get rid of all but one detector.

Well,
An eleven inch round coil probably won't be smoking hot on real small gold.
The 6" coil hopefully will be.

True! Same holds true with my AT Pro. My 5x8 does a better job than the stock 8.5x11. That being said, my AT Pro will still, even with the big stock coil, hit even the tiniest piece of gold. I've tested some gold that bangs on my AT Pro that won't even make a sound on my E-Trac.

From watching the vid's, I hope they calm the Equinox down a bit. Not sure the guy's settings but that TID reminded me of the Whites Treasuremaster's.

The guy was finding Roman broach pieces. Going over a target the TID was jumping anywhere from -9 to 27 (pretty wild) and he was like "oh, that sounds like a good one!"

Dunno about anyone else and there are a lot of variables but I don't know if that's going to be indicative of "good signals" for the Equinox.

Time will tell.

Here is what one of my detectors with a certain coil does on small.
Sweeping the bic pen tip, the #9 shot, and look closely a real small ball of foil.

Airtest on all around 2.75" - 3" with sens at 93.
The less round and more irregular the shape the better this coil likes.
This is using a disc program, not a gold field program btw. (Results above)

I call this thing my smoker in a site.
Etrac and smaller gold a no go for sure.

Does anyone know what type of water proof headphones the Equinox will take?

tnsharpshooter,

I look forward to hearing your experiences, and results of your testing. I intend to do thorough testing as well, because for this machine to be a "keeper" for me, it will have to do a few specific things very well. I have two "spots" that need to be filled, in terms of a detector -- ONE is a fast, excellent-in-iron machine (which would be a backup to my Explorer, and an occasional "go-to" machine for a few iron-infested sites), or -- ideally, a fast, excellent-in-iron machine THAT ALSO doubles as a skilled deep-coin hunter, giving me depth, and accurate/stable ID at depth, comparable to my Explorer (which would then render my EXPLORER to "backup machine!") I pretty strongly doubt this machine will be capable enough in terms of depth and deep/accurate ID such that it will replace my Explorer -- but I am open to being pleasantly surprised. With that said however, if it merely turns out to be truly excellent in iron (excellent meaning -- like you said -- not "sparky" and "falsy" on the iron, and giving you good tonal clues as to presence of the "good targets" in close proximity to iron, enough that you can have faith that the tonal clues you hear are hints of keepers, and not "falses" off of the iron), then, this "excellent in iron" characteristic would make it an excellent "backup" machine, that would be my go-to on some occasions, depending upon site.

Here's to hoping!

Steve

My thoughts too, except I don't have a explorer 2.

That is a tiny tn. And I thought my tiny's were tiny.

I rate my little stuff in two groups. Smalls & Tiny's

Here are some of my smalls.

You know how long I looked for this tiny? My pinpointer would not even pick it up. The AT Pro banged on it like it was huge.

Another video. Again, not in English but it has some footage of speed testing starting around the 7 minute mark and depth testing around the 11:50 mark. Not sure what kind of coins those are, but the second one he tests looks smaller than a dime and the machine is tagging it at about a foot deep. Depth looks pretty impressive to me.

I can certainly believe what you are referring to with pinpointer.
I have chased my tail off some a bit lately.

13 1/2"...and it's hitting it CLEARLY...starting at the 12:30 mark...

Hmm...

Thats the larger of the two coins. Tags it clearly at over 14" (36 cm). Keep watching. He will switch to a smaller coin at around 15:40. Still tags the small coin at about a foot.

It's a bit of a false test, the coil is hanging out over the hole at times.
If they drilled a hole into the wall of the hole and put the coin in about a ft it would be a good result.

My unimpressed observations as well...

I've seen enough to make the decision to purchase one at least for further testing. Since I can't seem to entice a single *cough tester cough* to do a simple gold test. I've seen the processor speed and I've seen a weight of around 2 1/2 lbs. I've seen the reviews "claim" to match or even surpass the performance of the CTX. I'm sold.

Now, some please take a small gold earring, chain or pendant and test the darn thing. Or do I have to do it myself? I don't want to see no gold rings that any $50 detector can hit, I want to see it hit on a small gold earring, chain or pendent. I'm talking 0.5 gr or less.
