New Minelab Equinox

If an extension is hardwired to the head unit and sealed appropriately, the assembly still maintains waterproofness. You just need a waterproof connector on the other end. The concept is no different than modding an Excal to accept switching coils.

Now I’m not talking about having a connector dangling at the base of the handle. It’s implied that Minelab can make it look professional.

One thing about the connector on Equinox.
You won't be trying to undo in cramped quarters like the you know what model(s).

You used a safer word here "implied", better than assume.lol

There was a hint in a video or 2, where some changes may be made.
We'll have to see what they are.
But with a release a coming,,time is getting critical for major physical changes.
Especially for a waterproof unit.

I'd like to see the coil connection be under the handle, get it completely away from where we grip. Wouldn't cost much to internally extend the inside coil wires from the brain, down through the handle and make a connection underneath. Just protrude the plastic under the handle by 1/2 inch for the connector fitting.

Details matter and that’s not just eyesore, it’s begging to be damaged.

I don’t think it’s an assumption that Minelab can design a handle to fix that mess. I think it’s a fact. Whether they choose to correct it remains to be seen.

Is this going to be wireless like the deus, in that you will have to run a wire up if you plan on submerging the head unit so you can get a signal?
Also, I agree, they really ought to move that coil connection mounting point lower on the handle below the head unit. It's just asking to get snagged on brush or seaweed...

Yep

at least if you break it off they have a new service center and wont have to deal with the other one anymore! lol I think things are going to get very interesting in this hobby in the next few years.

I dont see a huge problem with the coil connector sticking out the back , its not preferable but there are other mainstream detectors with nearly the same setup. Its not great for water hunting , though if the performance of the detector were good enough it may be worth the extra fuss. For land hunters.....just be really careful , you know its a sensitive piece of electronic equipment , if you are careless with it its gonna break. It " should " be built better , but if its not then you work with what you have and dont beat it up.

Per:

Equinox has both, manual and auto ground balance plus the tracking you guys were referring to (I'm not sure what that is, but it does have it).

Also, volume control built in brain (I'd bet that controls loudness of signals on wired/wireless headset as well since it is the sending signal directly from brain).

Wired headphones will have to screw into the unit, video gives great views of back of brain of prototype...if that's what the final unit will look/be configured like, who knows?

Two presets under each setting (field, beach, gold, etc...) and when tweaked/adjusted by user, it does save those last presets as they were changed. So the 600 should have 8 factory settings/custom if user tweaks those, the 800 would have 10. * I say SHOULD because if you watch the very end of the video, it sounds as though the 2 presets for each mode may only apply to the 800 model and not the 600???*

Some settings/changes are unique to only certain modes, some are global (applying to all modes).

The charging port looks really neat too, like a magnetic tab that will lay on the port. Software upgrades to come through that port as well, which suggests the other side of charge cable is definitely USB for charging/ upgrade.

A worthy positive note.

Yes and no, historically speaking...

Their service centers have never been happy places...

Lol...

A new address for the same stuff as usual.. Although I hope it could be different, just ONCE?

<°)))>{

I have said what i said! I do not see hundreds of Etracs, Ctx's on the forums or ebay for sale so i think that pretty much says that whether most are willing to admit it or not that this is not the end all machine or holy grail of detectors lol! Or at least they do not believe strongly enough that they are rushing to sell machines yet, and i hope you do not cause i really think you will be disappointed in the end. If this was a Deus, Impact, ctx rolled into one lightweight waterproof machine i PROMISE YOU IT WOULD NOT BE 800 dollars!!!!!!! It would be more like 3000 or more and i promise you peeps would buy the hell out of them! What do you wanna sell your product for, 800 or 3000 ??? a no brainer to me. Actually this is one time i would like to be wrong but my common sense says , if it too good to be true, it usually is. And the marketing makes no sense what so ever to me. If Feb rolls around and i am wrong i will post publicly a big fat I WAS WRONG! and will actually be happy to do so lol!

Sorry, business has kept me too busy to reply to this one.

Try to realize the audience here. There are like, 15 people on this forum and maybe a hundred on the other popular forums, that CANNOT wait to get this machine. Reality is, 90% of the folks in the metal detecting world, I.E., common hobby folk, A) don't read forums, B) don't care. In other words, 90% of the hobby people except the ones on all these forums don't care. There will not be a stampede to get one when they actually release them. For the first month with all the back orders, yes, maybe. From then on it will be trying to market to the masses. This is the crux of marketing and the real deal breaker in success of any product. Even kitchen gadgets...

My concern, as a mechanical engineer, I posted early on in the beginning of this forum my concerns about this dubious connector. Even if this would be the final outcome, no deal breaker. Many different connector mods are to be had, even, if they don't change the location. I have already designed my own in Solidworks. It will be a direct plug in design and have 270 Degree ball swivel capability.

If you never detected before in your life and Googled, "metal detector", there is no minelab, deus, nokta to be found. That is where the never, ever's are at. Trying to break ground to the general populous, huge undertaking, with already stand out companies. This is a bit daunting to some one who never detected. Even if someone wanted to upgrade, The person would most likely return to where past machine was bought. My presumption is, even this detector is not as in demand as we think. After it's release, they can be had by the millions.
