Who knew that excal mods would lead to scoop porn.

Good stuff to know so thanks to all of you. Now to get my other stuff sold so I can get my excal. Now to find the best price. I don't need a scoop or other accessories, just the excal and the straight shaft.

It's the stock Sovereign shaft.

Than I went to the goodwill store and bought a pair of crutches for $2.

I cut out a length of aluminum tubing about 20 inches long where there is a slight curve in the crutch. This tubing inserts perfectly inside the stock shaft
and I secured it with the armrest bolt.

About 12 inches of the tube sticks out behind the elbow and I drilled out the rivets of the box holder clamp under the armrest and relocated it to the end of the new tube. I like it with the curved end supporting the box. Good angle.

I estimated the length of the tube I needed based on the weight of the WOT coil to find the perfect counterweight balance point at the hand grip.

I use a Detector Pro swing buddy connected at the handle and I can make big wide flat swings effortlessly.

This make sense?

Found the old pics when I did it.

I got my Excal Today! Quality Metal Detectors to thank for it! Great price and super fast two day shipping. I bought the Straight shaft and knob protector from Plugger and that was with ONE DAY shipping!

My excal and me will be making our maiden voyage tomorrow at 7am. I had hoped to take it this afternoon before I found out it needs a 14 hour charge before detecting. Thanks for all the great advice and especially the excal and scoop porn:laughing:

And I thought my advice was the best of them all. I tried to help!

Congrats and I hope we see lots of wonderful treasure from you with your new heater!

One day I would love to hunt side by side with OBN and see if I am really missing anything. I really could be. You guys with the Excal get some wonderful finds. They just look too ugly, long and noisy to dive with in my opinion.

I have hunted side by side with an Excal in fresh water and he couldn't get his coil over a find I couldn't hear and I couldn't get my coil over a find he couldn't hear. I agree they are a great working detector.

Perfect sense. Thanks for your time.
I also extended mine behind the elbow but on a straight shaft. I can swing it all day with that set up. I was wondering how it would be doing what you did with keeping the curve for the meter. Sometimes I like to have the meter on.

One thing to remember about two great machines, It's not the machine then..........it's the hunter...

I still have my meter in the original position. I use my ears but

I like looking at it too. I have the 180 and the 550.

Part of the fun of playing with a Sov.

That white card in the picture is my 180 and 550 chart.
