Magnet fishing

When I'm not dirt fishing, or when the fish aren't biting when I'm fish fishing, I magnet fish around the marina where I keep my boat. Loads of fun! Pulled up an old folding chair last month. Also, my fishing pole holder was knocked off the dock and I was able to retrieve it. You just never know . . .

About how much does one of those cost?

About how much does one of those cost?

around fifty quid in uk but there r cheaper versions just not to sure if thay are as good this little puppy will latch on from the side so you dont have to be flat over the object.:good:

Got mine from HF

I picked up all three sizes at HF this weekend. Now I am ready to head to the lake and try it out.

Why don't you fly out here to Connecticut and I will take you to a couple beaches you can drag those puppies around on so I can then hunt those spots with my PI ;)

I have done some magnet fishing but it has been a while. Found some rusty tools and scrap metal. I would like to do it again soon, maybe from my canoe. I have heard of people finding guns at times, possibly discarded after some crime.

Like someone stated above, a magnet from a old subwoofer speaker works good for it. They are pretty strong. The magnet by a credit card might not ruin it, but I know for a fact it'll wipe a casino card clean, it happened to me about 6 times and I was really pissed having to go back to the cage to get a new card. Turns out my cell phone was in the same pocket as the card and wipe it clean.

We magnet fish over here in Germany, there's a ton of neat stuff to find in the lakes out here. Recently we found a bunch of 88mm shells and a grenade launcher for a K98

Where can I find a magnet like the one in the video? What kind of magnet are you using Kolby?

I bought a rare earth magnet that will lift 285 pounds, my buddy has one that is similar and we were pulling some awesome stuff out of the river it was 50 dollars not bad when you consider you will prolly get your money back with in a couple months

Back 20 years ago when snatching was allowed on the Tennessee river, people would gather right below damns and snatch for fish, we used big treble hooks with a 1 oune lead weight moulded in the center.. about ever 3rd cast you would get hung and broke off.. I used to throw a big magnet and retrevie the hooks, on my best day I almost filled a 5 gallon bucket with treble hooks!

More years ago than I care to admit I was waterfowl hunting in the Conneaut marsh in NW Pa. While pouring a cup of coffee my pal had his shotgun leaning on the gunnel of our small boat and his extremely exuberant lab somehow managed to send it over the side into more than 6' of very cold winter water. The following Sat. he returned with a large magnet on the end of a stout line and after a few hours managed to recover it.

I have a magnet that was used in a micro-wave tower, its about 4 inchs wide and 10 inchs long and over an inch thick. It's strong enough that if you put it on a metal table top you cannot lift it off, it will pick up the table. The only thing I have ever used it for is picking up loose nails after the roofers have gone.

Anyone still looking for a magnet, check eBay, they have them in all shapes, sizes and powers. I'll be ordering one in a week or two. Looks like a blast. eBay search, "Retrieving Magnet"

neil :fishin:

Also keep it away from ALL electronics...it'll ruin them

No it won't.

With rare exceptions, magnets have no effect on electronics whatsoever. And even in those rare exceptions, the effect is transitory and goes away when the magnet is removed.

There is ONE possible "exception to the exception", though, and even this "danger" is passing into history. Old color CRTs had a metal screen behind the CRT phosphors. Kids were always having fun by dragging magnets across the TV and distorting the colors and the picture. I've HEARD of cases (but never actually seen it, so it may also be a myth) where if a strong enough magnet was used, it would permanently magnetize the screen to the point where even degaussing couldn't fix it.

PS:

Magnets don't bother hard drives, either. The dangers lurking in getting magnets too close to a hard drive is a myth.

PPS:

I just noticed this thread was started in jan 2010 and ran through august.
Then Kolby resurrected it in march of this year for a couple of days.
Then Wolfpaw re-ressurected it the other day.

It's "The Attack of the Zombie Threads!!!"
