Magnet fishing

Looks interesting i guess you would tie a bunch of them together and cast them out tied to a line.

Kinda like fishing if it produced results it would prob be better than using a metal detector when you take into account the effort opposed to the results

I would guess it would be a good thing to use during a huge storm where the wave activity is to extreme to go out

No doubt there is some good stuff to be found that way, but no gold or silver. RickO

So i take it the magnets wont work for gold or silver, I guess if there were a watch out there or a necklace with a ornament on it, I remember way back on this board someone found something of great value down at atlantic city

Guys, if any of you try this please let us know how you make out, it sounds interesting to say the least.

strong magnets

I recycle computers as a hobby and there are pretty powerful magnets inside a computer hard drive. They aren't very large though....

Sounds like a good idea,to hunt for meteorites and iron stuff but from what I understand it will not pull out any gold or silver because they are nonmagnetic.I watched a video couple months ago about them using magnet to hunt on the lake in Russia ,they pooled out loots of military junk WW2 cant find a link sorry.HH

im going to get the 250 lbs pull one from harbor freight this friday...
have a ton of lakes and salt water ways i could use it on/in
also maybe for trying to help clear an area to detect...
also something to do while the ground is too frozen to dig!

they (harbor) also has a 600 lb. working capacity rope i'm going to tie it to

i shall post results when they arrive..

I took one out of an old speaker. It was pretty good until it fell on the garage floor and broke up. Going to wire it all up. When I find all the parts of it. Some could be stuck under my car. Not caring about them. Maybe I'll find another one someday.

Sounds like a fun way to meteorite hunt...perhaps I should try a drag bar on the back roads around the Odessa Crater!

I have tried this in Michigan, when I am fishing in my kayak, I use the magnet for a small anchor, then leave it down when I paddle to the next spot. Have not found anything worth mention, but I am really cleaning up my small lake.

Magnets

If you have an old microwave oven the magnatron has two mags on it. Watch out for the capacitor as it can shock hekk out of you.

i picked the rope and magnet up, actually two.
2 feet of snow the other day and another foot or so coming tom so i wont be able to test for a while now :(

I have some of the small rare earth magnets I've taped
together with silicone tape into a light enough package I
can cast out over the water.

I'm going to test it out some time in the next couple of days and share
some pics and all.

They don't attract U.S. coins. Of the coins I've detected so far
they only attract the Canadian dollar and 25 cent piece and a
Romanian coin I dug up. Luckily there are tons of Canadians down
here every winter and they leave some coins behind. Otherwise,
I expect to pull up lots of fishing gear and junk, but who knows?

magnets realy do find ,alas salt water finds r caroded and always changing lukely in fresh water situations its a realy good indecator that there is more there! my dad found a flint lock pistol when i was a kid n its always stayed in my memeory so i got one a few years ago and started messing in wells n old pools to no avail. to much sedament , I flyfish so i noticed while i was fishing of modern rock points there might be something ,so gave it a try ,I pulled out an old sword rusted to f**k along wit bits n iron bobs,i still dont have any proper water gear so i just detected around the woods behind me and found some cool old stuff

When I'm not dirt fishing, or when the fish aren't biting when I'm fish fishing, I magnet fish around the marina where I keep my boat. Loads of fun! Pulled up an old folding chair last month. Also, my fishing pole holder was knocked off the dock and I was able to retrieve it. You just never know . . .
