Joint Pain

What is the ingredient in OSTEO,

Brainworm, This is coming from the other side of the globe, but I can assure you I am dinkum.
I am a 74 year old who has spent most of his life doing physical work, including walking around the bush today. I have Arthritis in my Knees, Elbows and Thumbs Etc, Etc, like most people. A few years ago a doctor prescribed Panadol OSTEO for me. After a couple of weeks I decided they weren't making any difference and stopped them. About a year later, a new doctor in town suggested the same thing. I said, I have been there and no good. This pretty little lady doctor said, they take time, please give them 6 weeks to kick in. She was right and now after 4 or 5 years I am a happy chappy. I am not sure what they are called in USA, but it shouldn't be hard to find out.
Good Luck....Simo

I take Panadol Extra Strength, and sometime Olfen. A few days of Olfen and my guts hurt as bad as my knees did.
Please post the ingredients of OSTEO, so we can all look for a similar product.

Well, if 60 was middle age,

Walgreens had some Glucosamine HCI 1500mg so bought a couple of bottles 60 tablets per bottles says take 1 a day, I'll try those daily along with ibuprofen as needed.. I never thought that hitting 60 was getting old

there would be a lot more 120 year old people walking around.

I have used most of the items listed in the replies. All of them gave me some relief for a while. I take the Schiff Mega Red and it does seem to help. It took a week or so before I realized it was working. A good topical I have used for years is a Walgreens' brand for muscle and joint relief.

But I recently started with another topical......Two Old Goats? Seriously, that's the name. I use it twice daily and it has helped me a lot. It says it's for Fibromyalgia, arthritis, etc. I had L4 and L5 repaired surgically in 2009. The pain now is sometimes worse than before I had surgery. Two Old Goats helps me limber up quicker in the morning after my shower.

I think another thing that is helping me is MD'ing. Bending over, squatting, digging, walking, etc.... As stated earlier, it's a lot better to be moving than sitting.

So at the risk of sounding like a commercial, try the Two Old Goats. I get mine from our local HARDWARE STORE......not the pharmacy.

HH y'all.

Tumeric as in the spice?

Yes, it is reputed to have anti-inflammatory qualities. You can put a half teaspoon or so in liquid or food, but frankly it's pretty nasty at that strength.
I think the capsules are much more palatable, although they aren't tasty either :)

It's another one of those that takes a couple of weeks, and you have to take it regularly.

Cherries

I have heard, though don't know that it is true, that eating cherries also helps relieve pain. I like cherries, so I figure, eh, can't hurt trying! :)

contain something that helps the symptoms of gout, AKA Gouty Arthritis. Can't remember what that something is, but It helps my father in law. If your joint pain is gout, you might want to do some research on colchicine.

Most commonly encounter mixed with mustard seed and vinegar, liberally applied to a hotdog. Or, at a Chinese restaurant as an accompaniment to egg rolls.

Tumeric is what makes prepared mustard yellow.

Paracetamol, the generic name for Panadol, is called acetaminophen in the USA, the largest name brand manufacturer there being Tylenol brand. As I believe was mentioned before, Tylenol markets their Arthritis Strength Tylenol in the USA, which I would guess is equivalent to your Osteo.

Glucosamine-Chondroitin is good but this stuff is great! It takes a week or two to kick in but the results are nothing short of amazing for me.

Others I have talked to have had similar results, some even better than I have had. It's expensive but worth it, look on amazon or ebay and you can find deals on the 60 count bottles.

Even when I get sore now the duration is shorter and recovery time is way less.

EDIT: I should add I did 22 years of 12 hour shifts on my feet on concrete and my feet are shot, full of arthritis. One knee is bad too.

As a Chiropractor, I get asked this question daily. Several of the other members that have posted are spot on and so I'll give the nod to them  and echo what I tell my patients. When it comes to supplements, You get what you pay for. DON'T CHEAT YOURSELF by purchasing from Walmart or other discount sellers. There is a reason they sell them for next to nothing. The quality of the product is determined by the purity of its ingredients and its manufacturing process, but you must also consider your own status. To determine this, IF you can afford it, I recommend you start with some blood work, like a spectra cell ($400 test). You can Google it for the details. You might be able to find a similar test a little cheaper, but you might remember that 1) you only get one body and 2) Doc's offices and labs are businesses too and might offer a cash discount.

If you can work hardshell seafood into your diet, you'll add the natural source of chondroitin and glucosamine sulfates

That said, I'd also steer you back to the basics of R.I.C.E.

R-rest
I-Ice (10-20 minutes immediately after)
C-compress (knee brace during event/use)
E-Elevate

Good hunting!

I'll piggyback onto Doc Watson's thoughts. Since I've taken Jarrow Formula's Glucosamine+Chondroitin+MSM I've noticed a great relief to my joint pain. Exercising the legs through cycling has helped, too (strengthening the muscles saves some wear and tear on the adjacent joints). Good luck.

So many ways to damage your kidneys and liver!

Aleve takes the edge off most of the time when I take it for joint pain , atleast enough for me to keep active. If I run out I will take ibuprofen but it dont seem to work as well. But everybodys chemistry is different , what works for some may not work so well for others.

Any suggestions for over the counter joint pain meds. Did a 3 hour hunt yesterday and the joints are seizing up today.

Metal detecting does not get you in shape. You have to be in some kind of shape to detect for hours. You have to drink water and eat right. Legs are big muscle groups and use a lot of proteins and carbs. If you strengthen the muscles around your aching joints you will do better.
