Illegal Detecting in Belgium

Let the troll die. Even though he might have had a point hidden somewhere it is unlikely you'll ever get any coherent reply back and it is doubtful he'll come back at all...
If you want to discuss metal detecting laws in different countries then a separate thread might be in order. And hopefully without trolls :)

hi,
I will replay on all your american suspicious questions. It's not true that Belgium or others Europeen countries are triying hide something, but we are protecting our tresures from people like(I am sorry) YOU, who are steeling our goods, our heritage. It is well known that Europe has much longer history then US. We have in our ground, things which are tousand of years old. Many people, mostly citizens, digging thouse tresures in secret and never show archeologists or heritage conservators what they had found. Many people like you taking those thing with you to your countries. There's no such precious things in US, belive me.
believe you,

Not to brag or slight other countries, but FYI Wisconsin USA has the second oldest metal working on the planet. Copper weapons and relics that are older than Stonehenge. I do like your waffles BTW !

I would not be to concerned about what he has said.He sounds like a very troubled archie to me We get a lot of them over here.Sour grapes because we are finding what they would love to find.Omelet or whatever your name is,,, be a good boy and go and look for some more pottery will you.

 Well said, Simon, well said.

They say "our history" but they do not take care about till someone else finds it. And then they claim it to do the easy job.

KT has a good friend in Belgium and He has to agree...Belgium chocolate is the BEST and their lace is second to none. Other than that, who knows much about this poor European country....other than they got over run by the Nazis and our men had to free them of that plague!

As been said a troll. But in defense of the folks from Belgium they are far more grateful for what the American GIs did during WW2 than other Euro countries. I wont name them

rayvinton thanks for very interesting info and no need to give omletem more attention than
bothersome insect

Opinions are free, but insults will cost you. Please go back to your Euro-Fascist thinktank and leave us alone. We don't really need your hate and misinformation here. Next you will be telling us how Hitler was right and we were all weak and simple-minded not to understand him. Your kind makes me sick.

But you certainly aren't worth the energy to get mad over. Not to mention only an idiot would be proud of a "heritage" that is lost in the ground that no one knows about or has found. I have a 100 Billion Dollar gold "hertiage" buried in my back yard - I have never seen it, nor has anyone else, but I am busting with pride over it anyway. Yeah, sure fellow......... and the drugs do nasty things to your brain and you should really quit now while you can still walk and talk. Well, at least walk - the rest we can live without.

BTW, metal detecting and prospecting IS allowed on BLM land. Digging up old stuff- more than 100 years old - is not. Archeological sites might be taken off limits.

What he said. You can check it out HERE. Detecting is allowed on most US federal lands except for national parks and monuments and as restricted.

I have done some detecting overseas myself. It pays to know the rules. I was detained at gunpoint once in Macedonia, which is no fun at all. NOT for detecting, mind you, but for suspicion that I was secretly mapping a military location several miles away. You know, with my secret mapping detector device. No harm, no foul.

My most fun detecting overseas was with a site archaeologist present. They often have never had a detectorist work with them and, in my experience, they have been friendly and helpful. Of course, you may not get to keep what you find, which might discourage some, but the experience is terrific. I found and turned over a couple of things in the Republic of Georgia that wound up being published and are now in a museum. I did get to keep some 300-400 year-old Persian coins that they didn't want any more of, which I enjoyed. For me, it was a question of "do I get to detect in a researched ancient site or do I wander around on my own with a limited amount of time?"

I hope you get your detectors back. At the very least, this is an object lesson for the rest of us.

Detecting in Belgium & France

There seems to be some very ignorant people on here, sorry but the Gendarme are the people that are called when someone who does not have a clue what they are digging up sets of a handgrenade that the lever has become so brittle the slightest movement sets it off. of a gas shell is set of or at worse a high explosive round kills one or two detectorists out having fun. It is them that is going have to collect the parts of a body and them that has to break the news to the family. I am enclosing a link for the ignorant to be educated a little.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/...ethal-relics-from-WW1-are-still-emerging.html

These are still war graves for thousands of men, I cannot come to us and dig on a civil war battlefield and rightly so. Most Gendarme will smash a detector and let you go. IF you really are interested in the history and want to dig join a proper group and find out what you are dealing with. It is scarry that now in many homes there are live shells that have been taken from the edges of fields put there by farmers for the EOD to take but stolen but stupid treasure hunters. As for the stupid remarks 'what are they scared you might find' !! There is a society called the Durand group that are professional diggers and know what they might find and these people would actually hand in Dog Tags if they found them, I bet most that dig in the Somme & Ypres would not

Hanbut, thank you for digging up a nearly 5 year old string to respond to for your first post and then do nothing in your post but insult us. I hope you don't think think this action will endure you to us. Welcome to our forum and a word of advise, tone down the attitude.

Wow! I'm just going to grab some popcorn, sit back and relax to watch this. :)

Sometimes it is best to let a 5 year old thread go back to sleep. I think this is one of those cases.
